yeh most companies advertise at peak power not rms. a new shop just opened near me that shelf stuff under their RMS rating so its alot better. even then some RMS ratings are overrated. for example, the 1000w Boss amp. that only puts out a couple of hundred rms over 4 channels. not much at all. a 400...
