Thanks for replies. I stuck with a good quality green ethylene glycol. I flushed out the old stuff in the rad but couldn't find an engine drain plug so I filled up with plain water and ran engine until thermostat opened to allow the old coolant in the engine & heater to mix with the plain water in t...

Red antifreeze for Lanos?
I'm due to do a coolant / antifreeze change on my Lanos and was wondering if it's ok to use the longlife red colour antifreeze? Last time I used the basic green stuff. I know you can't mix the green & red together but if I completely flush out my cooling system can I then use the red stuff?

That's a similar example for using an engine flushing agent. I've always been told that if the engine is well maintained with regular oil changes then it's ok to use a flush before changing the oil. However, if it's not had regular changes then don't use a flush as it may loosen the crud with no gua...

When I had a new timing belt fitted I also noticed a lack of power at the top end range and also a lot of induction roar noise through the air intake. I was convinced the belt must be a notch out but I re-checked it and the timing marks matched up perfect. I put up with it but after a while I notice...

If it uses the old style 10pin ALDL I think you should be able to extract any fault codes with the paper clip method. On my Lanos I bridge pins A+B and turn on ignition and count the CEL flashes. Although I would first check to make sure the Espero is a similar method as you don't want to fry the ec...

The vacuum pipe that connects the basic type EGR goes to a black plastic valve thingy (not sure what it's called) and then to the TB. There is an electrical multiplug connected to this plastic valve, which is controled by the ecu to allow vacuum to reach the egr when it's needed. Well I think that's...

Just a thought, but make sure all the multiplugs are properly connected behind the left hand side kick panel (next to the fuses) One of them came lose on me once and the car failed to start. Probably isn't that but seen as you've tried everything else it's worth a go. Also, here in the uk the cam se...

I can't remember if it was a Lanos or Nexia, but someone else had similar problems after fitting new valves & cambelt after a belt failure. In that case he forgot to connect an earth cable at the back of the cylinder head (was hard to spot). Like I say, not sure if it was the lanny or Nexia but wort...

Depends how sludged up it is. Personally I would only use an oil flush if the engine has had regular flushes at routine service intervals. Otherwise if it's really sludged up the flush will dislodge it and there's no guarantee it'll come out the drain plug so may cause other problems like blocking v...

You're from the uk so may be more familiar with gallons. 1 uk gallon = 4.55 litres If you put in 30 litres of fuel and did 120 miles it works out at: 30 litres = 6.59 gallons 120 miles divided by 6.59 = 18.2 mpg (or 4 mpl) Obviously it depends on your driving style and what kind of roads you drive o...
