Just heard from the dealer, it was a failed oil pump gasket. Apparently they have a service bulletin out on that. Completely covered under warranty. Apparently they have to replace it with a metal-reinforced version that doesn't fail. Well, at least I don't have to pay for another oil change for ano...

It turns out that the engine was losing oil and it was burning off of the catalytic converter. I had to get a tow on Malibu Canyon today, the oil light came on.

Sad, car has 8,000 miles on it. I was hoping it'd be more reliable than this.

Dealer has it now, thankfully it's under warranty.

Hot smell on aveo LT

I have an Aveo LT, about 7500 miles on it. Tonight I noticed a smell that smelled like hot oil or coolant coming out of the air vent. It does not smell like this outside the car, and only seems to do this on idle. Big deal or just something to keep an eye on? It was not a strong smell but noticable.

Hi all, I took the drive to Tucson. No problems at all. The A/C had a little hard time keeping up with the sun, and I noticed it was the humidity, not the heat (or maybe in addition to it) that seemed to cause the loss in power I noticed earlier (that also seems to happen when I leave a car wash), b...

It's the stock 6-CD changer on a 2007 Chevy Aveo. Sorry I didn't specify that earlier.

CD error 9

Hi,

I burnt two CDs last night. One of them is a bunch of small songs, about 170 of them, and it worked just fine. The other one was a bunch of classical music - which obviously is much longer per song - and it errored out with "error 9". Any idea what that error means?

Thanks.

Going through Phoenix, but I'm going to see my gf, so I doubt I'll be stopping at least on the way down. :) On the way back, I may have a couple of hours to spare...

Hmm, thanks. Do you drive through the desert frequently? Just curious - as I stated in an earlier comment, I still don't trust my car, even though it's new, we're getting to know each other ;)

Maybe I'll go to Pep Boys today and get a survival kit.

Desert driving in a new Aveo/Daewoo

It looks like I may be going to Tucson in a couple of weeks. It won't be like July, but it's probably going to be very hot and very dry. My car will have about a thousand miles on it at the time. Is there anything special I should do when taking a new car through the desert?

Thanks. As long as I know what it is I can deal with it - I used to have a Geo Metro so I am no stranger to dealing with underpowered cars. This one is actually not so bad as far as power goes, but I was worried that there was something wrong with it. As long as it's just something that's normal I c...

Thanks. I was reading up, and it turns out that excessive stop-and-go traffic in hot weather can overheat an automatic transmission, and I think that *may* be what happened. I have no way of proving it, however. I think I'll just keep an eye on it and have then change the fluid sooner than they usua...

Hot weather sluggishness

Hi all, I have a quick question. I just bought a 2007 Aveo brand new - it has 299 miles on it. It's been driving pretty well. But this week in the LA area it has been really hot, and while driving down the PCH in stop and go traffic for about 10 or 15 miles (traffic was moving really slowly all the ...
