Out of curiosity, what does your coolant look like? If you have a head gasket leak your coolant is going to look absolutely like filth, mine looks like it's about half mud, and it has less than 100 miles on it.

I have a '96 Subaru Outback with an EJ25D that is doing something similar to this...the damn thing has a head gasket leak that it turns out is extremely common to this specific engine. When I get time I am planning to shitcan the EJ25D and drop an EJ22E into the car instead. I'll still drive my Aveo...

As I recall, the '06 Aveo owner's and GMervice manuals say that the flashing CEL indicates a misfire condition. Are 2002 European models OBD2 compliant, out of curiosity?
