I'm almost ready for the swap....

Post by KnightWalace »

When my scholarship money comes in (my dad is giving the excess money back... lol) well i'm thinking i'm either going to go with a swap or save up for the 2.0l spectra.

I'm thinking of converting my 1.6l dohc lanos HB (AUTO) into a 2.0l (Nubira) dohc lanos hb... with the D20 tranny and i'm guessing i'll need the parts for the swap

Engine, Tranny, ecu, clutch, clutch pedal. Anything else?

and how much am i looking at?

why swap the tranny? the F16 mounts up to the 2.0 engine as far as i know.... same goes for the clutch

So as far as i know you only need the engine and the ECU+wiring

Nearly the same power to weight ratio with the Spectra as a 2500Lb Lanos with a 130HP 2.0, the 2.0 also weighs more than the 1.6 so curb weight goes up even more.

I thought about doing this myself (but keeping the ATX) but, after you look at the end result, a Nibura wouldn't be much slower than a Lanos with a 2.0 engine.

yes i'd be converting the auto to a manual. In which i know the D20 can handle more torque than the F16 so therefore, i want to grab the D20 because i plan on adding some horsepower. Turbo, CAI, Evofusion Full Exhaust... Just for starters.

Cold Air Intake and a Turbo... that's an interesting set up.

A turbo'd Lanos sounds more interesting than a Tibby, even if it is 10x the work doing all you said you want to do to it.

I have to say I do like Tiburon's. Have you driven one?

If you buy one make sure to stuff a twisted up tin can in the intake tube, or better yet take an electric motor from a leafblower and stick it up in the intake so you can have a "real" electric supercharger with 2psi of boost. Make sure to get a boost guage too. :P

I used to have a cat named Tibby. Her sister from the same litter was Tabby! LOL

Mike - LOL @ the tin can & the leaf blower! heh

I have driven an '03 V6 6speed Tiburon and it was pretty nice, other than to me it felt the winodws were so narrow I didn't feel like I could see very well out of it; kinda made me feel clostrophobic.
On the test drive, I had it up to 130mph in 5th gear. I never took it to 6th because the exit to get off came up fast and I needed to take it back to the dealer. LOL

Yes a Tiburon, i like the style and powerplant of them. However that doesn't mean the end of project 2.0l lanos. Just on the side for now.
