Lanos EGR Valve

Post by Rich »

Hello all,

I need some help with a year 2000 Lanos 1.6, engine code A16DMS.

The EGR valve has failed. The car jerks all over the place, but when I unplug the vacuum to the valve the problem stops. However I can't find a valve anywhere for the Lanos, but I can find them for the Nubira. They are listed with the same engine code as the Lanos, but a different part number.

Does anyone know if the Nubira EGR valve will work with the Lanos with the same engine code?

Many thanks
Rich

AutoZone had the EGR valve in stock for my 2001 Lanos, 1.6l engine.

About $150 US.

If by removing the vaccum line from EGR valve the jerking problem stops then the problem is not EGR valve but probably permanent vaccum. Follow the vaccum line to the solenoid valve and check it.

I checked the end of the pipe to the EGR, but no suction until the solenoid opens. I removed the solenoid and moved it to a position that i could check it. I wired it via a switch into the car and conected the pipe back to the EGR. Keeping the solenoid closed, same as the pipe being removed, i had ni major jerking. If i flipped the switched and the solenoid opened, then the problem returned. I therefore believe the solenoid is doing its job and there aren't any leaks. This still brings me back to the EGR valve.

I'm no mechanic and have tried things simply by searching the net. Everything i try seems to indicte the EGR valve.

Thanks
