Pulling Engine/trann and replacing with same Time Guestimate

Post by chefrobert »

Has anyone pulled one of these engines/tranny and replaced with a whole new one? I have done one engine swap in my life and it was a total pain as
to replace the CV Axles was a very time consuming process. Seems like I had to pull the whole hub, they wouldnt swing out of the way to allow the engine pull. But has anyone actually done an engine swap back yard style with good results? ThankYou for any insight

I am a GM FWD guy and use a similar mounting on my Beretta's. We do the engine swaps from the bottom specifically on 4 bangers!. Your cradle is held in with a few bolts, we do not scractch and often get it together without damage. The wider 4 cylinder engine has limited room on either side.

I use a hoist to drop engine and then lift the car with the hoist and slide engine and tranny out. This beats struggle, scratching the engine bay.

That is something I wouldnt have thought about . Going down instead of Up. What about the CV joints etc... Not a big deal? What do you guess time is with all the right tools and Knowledge. I will double that for my back yard antics. Also do you always have to discharge AC comprssor or do you tie it off somehow in engine compartment>
