Car jerking intermittently

Re: Car jerking intermittently
Hi another symptom last night was when I pulled into the yard after the drive it was sitting at 1000 revs and than I touched the throttle and it jumped to 2000 revs and stayed there
Re: Car jerking intermittently
Okay guys i tested the new sensor when the throttle is close it is reading 4.9 and when it is opened it is
0.45 so it looks like it is in reverse how to I get it the other way

Re: Car jerking intermittently
I put the old one back and the voltage is reading .65 closed to 4.9 full open but the old one the catchment area is eaten away . so the wiring is correct
is the new sensor faulty ?
is the new sensor faulty ?
Re: Car jerking intermittently
IMHO the new sensor is not the good reference and the old sensor is defective (eaten).
You should read references embossed/engraved/printed on many original parts.
The voltages with the old sensor go in the correct direction.
Get the genuine GM one 17106681 or equivalent. Opel Astra?? Ask Google!

Re: Car jerking intermittently
The sensor was installed incorrectly. What you need to do is reconnect the sensor to the vehicle harness, but do not install it to the throttle body. Then take a screwdriver or similar, and adjust the inside ear, until it reads closed throttle specs. Once you achieve closed throttle voltage, re-install the sensor to the throttle body, and test the function confirming the voltage is operating correct.
This should correct your issue.

Hi Trey05Woo,Trey05Woo wrote:You may have installed the TPS wrong. It has a recessed ear inside where the throttle valve shaft fits into. This is how the throttle valve actuates the sensor. If you install it wrong, the TPS sensor can be giving an open throttle signal, when the throttle plate is actually closed. This can be the cause of the idle spike.
I would also pay attention to the wiring issue you are having. You should always address all wiring issues BEFORE replacing any components.
You should also get some type of a scan tool connected. This will tell you what the trouble code is, and you can confirm the TPS signal.
Finally, you should also run the idle relearn after replacing the TPS or IAC. I can post instructions on how to do this if needed.
Can you post instructions about TPS idle relearn process?
Are they different from when battery is disconnected?
Re: Car jerking intermittently
hi I also thought of adjusting it , but when I took it out I used a flat screwdriver which is similar size to the throttle shaft and tried to turn it but it only swings one way and automatically swings back , it doesn't turn any other way , I don't want to force it the other way because I might break it , but definitely swings one way easily .......
I am going to get it swopped tomorrow and I am going to test the voltage outside the spare shop while the sensor is in closed position and see what it reads , if it reads in the 0.5 v range I will take it or ask for a refund

Re: Car jerking intermittently
What is the reference marked on the new sensor?
Mine has a "06681" which seems to be consistent with the GM reference 17106681 I gived. It's also spring loaded.

Re: Car jerking intermittently
Okayy so i got a new sensor today from gm said Cielo lanos esp on the packet gm, I installed it started on 1.5rpm. Measured voltage 0.9v closed. 5v open but the rev high and the engine light on and the car jerking. So I almost put a match to it as it is covered over insurance, so my dad took it to his mech and I gave up and in bed now with acute bronchitis.
Re: Car jerking intermittently
The car came back now the mechanic says there's a short in the wiring and he is going to check it tomorrow morning
Re: Car jerking intermittently
Hi guys it cane back from the mechanic guess what it purrs like a kitten, he re done all the wiring going to tps and iacv and running like a bomb.
So that's soughted now onto other things I have a clunk sound when going over a bumpy road any ideas
By the way the car is doing 376000 km

Re: Car jerking intermittently
@ Daniel yes, see below...
(This should be done with cold/cool engine. Make sure none of the accessories are running, including the cooling fans. Do not operate the steering wheel either)
1. Turn ignition ON for 5 seconds (key on engine off)
2. Turn ignition OFF for 10 seconds
3. Turn ignition ON for 5 seconds. (key on engine off)
4. Immediately start the engine in Park (auto) or Neutral (manual)
5. Run engine until the engine coolant reaches above 185F/85C. (Fans come on)
6. Turn ac ON for 10 seconds
7. Turn ac OFF for 10 seconds.
8. If auto transmission: depress brake and shift to Drive. (Hold in gear)
9. Turn ac ON for 10 seconds.
10. Turn ac OFF for 10 seconds.
Shift back to park, turn off ignition. Idle relearn should be completed.

Re: Car jerking intermittently
Hi Trey05Woo,
ok, this is the procedure described in the manual. I did not know the tps was concerned too.

Re: Car jerking intermittently
Yes, anything that affects idle. If you change any part that affects the idle speed, then you should run idle relearn. They are:
Battery replacement
IAC replacement
TPS replacement
Misfire repair (ignition, vacuum, or otherwise)
PCM replacement
CMP replacement
CKP replacement
This is what GM recommends.
