Fuel Gauge Accuracy?

Post by jaguarlestat »

Hi

How will you know if your fuel gauge is accurate? and how will you fix a leaking gas tank without changing it?

with a full gas tank the needle should point at the top mark.

They're probably the least accurate things on your car. For example: i get 120miles on the first quarter tank... maybe 60 miles on the next one. Then the last quarter tanks lasts forever... and once the light comes on a still have 2 gallons left

If I floor it, the gas guage drops considerably, sometimes like 1-2 cm  . It makes me feel like I'm driving a V8, not a fuel efficient Inline 4. Then, when I park it and leave it in the "ON" position, it jumps back up to where it should be.

Daewoos have notoriously bad fuel gauges, come from a bad "resistor card" or something in the fuel pump. However, I don't need to know when it is full, only when it is empty!

I had a 1/2-3/4 tank of gas and when i was racing on this corner it would show the empty light for like 10 seconds. When this happens is the car able to get gas? say i had less gas like 1/4-1/2 tank (which i did by the end of the race, but i didnt pay attention to the gas anymore) and the light came on for like 20 seconds.. is this bad?

it is not bad... it is just the fuel is beeing forced way from the float that sends the fuel level signal during that corner and thus the fuel lamp is triggered.

i had this issue when i am low on fuel and during some turns or climbing hills... not a big deal at all.
