It wouldn't be new to hear that a car company lied about power numbers. I know people have dynoed their Lanoses to produce about the same numbers as Daewoo says (after factoring in drivetrain loss). Most cars came in about 104-107 HP @ crank, it all depends on conditions. The Aveo has a lot of new parts (Head, Cams, Intake manifold, TB, and all new electrical system) so it is probabally engineered differently. Interchanging parts from the Lanos may affect the Aveo positively or negatively. Someone needs to be the guinea pig.Brian5475E wrote:I think one of the car manufacteurs lied. How can the Lanos have 103 or 104 HP and the Aveo with the same bottom end, but a smaller intake and exhaust manifolds, also cams with dramaticly less lift have the same HP readings as the Lanos?

It sucks that the Lanos manifold doesn't fit. It is a really good design and with a little bit of port work I'm sure it can run as or more efficiently that custom or aftermarket models.04aveohb wrote:and dyno a stock Aveo, lol.
After I start building my aveo decently I might dyno it. Im looking to replace the intake manifold, might need a custom made manifold...this would add some definate HP.

Where to get specs for Optra 5, 2.0?
Hi everyone, just wondering where I can find the specs for my Optra? Did you find them on line or did you go through G.M.
Thanks
Thanks

I'm a little confused here..... why is it that you think they have a different head design???
As far as I'm concerned the engines are practically identical and they share all their components with the Opel 1.6L ECOTEC.
I was under the impression that the only difference between the intakes is that the Aveo one is cast in plastic while the Lanos one is in Aluminum.
I know the Aveo uses the Delphi system and the Lanos uses the AC Delco but that's not a big deal.

I'm about 90% sure that the 10.5:1 compression pistons from this engine would go into a Lanos and Aveo without a problem.
Bumping the compression from 9.5 to 10.5 should give you an extra 10% horsepower.
Keep in mind that the 1.6L ECOTEC does not have the variable geometry intake.... so the Lanos/Aveo intake would make more power in the lower RPM range and the 1.6L ECOTEC would probably make more power in the higher RPM range.

The head design is different. the lanos head has a lip that comes out where the injectors plug into the head, then the intake manifold mounts to the flange. the aveo has the plastic manifold that mounts flat against the head no lip that sticks out, and the injectors plug into the manifold on the aveo not the head
What car did this ecotec 1.6 come in, can anyone over seas look this up?

Aveo that moves! Now I need those cams!
this intake setup is more like the one on the 1.5 SOHC concerning the injectors location.

Hmmm.... that's strange.... why on earth would they change the head design.
Perhaps they are simply using the newer 1.6L ECOTEC head on the Aveo.
Thanks for bringing up the differences.... I think I remember seeing something about this before.
The cams seem compatable.... I guess an experiment will need to be done. ( perhaps I will have to rent an Aveo for the weekend :P )
