Lanos 1.6 DOHC timing belt replacement

Post by cmcon98 »

I need to replace my '99 Lanos timing belt this weekend. I've done this job on other cars, but never a Daewoo. Has anyone changed their Lanos timing belt? If so, any explanation, tips, tricks, or advice would be much appreciated.

I will need to know the same thing when my car gets up to around 50,000 miles ... I still have more than 30,000 to go before I reach that point. This leaves me plenty of time to figure it all out before I jump in and change everything.

More specific stuff...

The main things I need to know are:

1. Do you need a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley? Will a three-fingered puller work?

2. The car has 68,000 on it. Should the water pump also be replaced, or are they generally good for more miles than that?

3. Is the Daewoo timing belt tool (basically a big crowfoot wrench) necessary for turning the water pump (which tensions the belt) or is there another way to turn the pump?

4. Is there anything else I should know that will make the job smoother, easier, whatever?

Any advice from people who have done this would be much appreciated!

cmcon98..... did you get all those diagrams and instructions I emailed you??

I didn't read them very closely, so I wasn't sure if they would tell you everything you need to do the replacement??

Good luck.... sounds like it's not the nicest job in the world.

Do you need to see a picture of Daewoo tool J42492 ????

I might have it kicking around in the manual.

have you checked the how to section??

http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2746

as for the tool: i would try to do the job without it... it is doable but the tool makes it much more easyer, it will set you back 145USD though.

you can use a 42mm crows foot wrench as well, its the same thing, it's just hard to find a 42mm wrench.
