header 4-1 vs 4-2-1 for 20sed and 22sed

Post by mocpac »

People we will make a couple of header soon. But now I'm not sure wich one will be better for our n/a engines. Most of the headers on the speed shops are 4-2-1 but some people say that the 4-1 is better.

As far as I know

4-1 - works better for hi revolutions
4-2-1 - for low and mid....

Our 20sed anbd 22sed are week at hi revolution but we already add the pulley, the intake and throttle so probably we already have a better hi range.

Any opinion :?

Total Vauxhall magazine states the 4-2-1 is superior for the 1.8/2.0/2.2 DOHC motors, while 4-1 works better for 8 valvers. Besides, all the headers I saw for the C20XE or X20XEV are of 4-2-1 design.

4-2-1 is best

Post by zingy »

I made a custom made 4-2-1 header for my daewooo racer and believe you me it was found to be the best thing i ever did you can well imagine the torque increases i have by this statement " My front tyres keep on spinning on a stand still when i pump up the accelreator"so i recon a horsepower increase of about 10 i guess but loads of torque

Remember guys that the performance of a header depends on the car engine, there is not such thing like the "perfect" header.
some may say that 4-2-1 (One or two Pice) Rules. others 4-1 one piece rules. Othes Stainless or Ceramic Coated or etc...
Always the Dyno test will be diferent even if its the same Car and model....

no.

Hmm, well I will stop the instalation of the 10.5:1 pistos from the c20xe and make the header, because I will make a tuneup of the engine at the same time so I will spend more in the tuneup.

Well the race waypark will tell...

when the time comes i will be doing a 4-1 header with a 2 inch collector

and equal length long tubes

for me their si no need for TQ i allready got mine (148tq)

but the fact that from 4500 rpms to red line aur power curve dies it really jurts performance

if we get a flat or increasing power band after 4500rpm the cars will move much better

thats why we need short-rams intake sucking cold air and 4-1 headers

4-2-1 is where the 4 exhaust outlets are combined into 2 pipes and then those 2 are combined into one pipe.

a 4-1 setup is kinda like the OEM one... all 4 pipes combine into one pipe.

I was talking with el Junito, about all the opinons here. I think I will go with the 4-2-1. Why? No mater if our cars die at hi rpms. the time that the car is between 4 to 6.5 is minimum. I think I will prefer hi power between 1 to 4.5. So I will get a better reaction as soon that I press the gas pedal. Well is my opinion. We also talk about make one of each one to prove both in a dyno, but that gonne be too expensive.

Also base in the dyno test of chris car with the 360D pulley I never go over 6rpm before shiting because I see the lose of power there.

**PoTsUrFrIeNd**

Any lanos header can fixt in the aveo. El junito make a modification to a civic b16 header, And because he will swap to a t20sed angine he is selling it. Must weld the conector to the exaust pipe but is %90 ready. He will give it as the smae cost that he buy it. I think was 100.00

Does switching to a 4-2-1 on a Lanos 1.6 DOHC improve it's low end torque too?
