I'd start checking the basic components when the engine stalls:
- is there a spark?
- is there fuel?
- have you checked for any vacuum leaks?
No spark could indicate a faulty DIS. No fuel could be something as simple as malfunctioning fuel pump relay, faulty fuel pump or no reference signal to the ECM from the crank sensor...

considering you on here i dont think this would be your trouble BUT ill ask anyways.... do you change your oil on regular basis or not? We had 2 cars in once where the oil was so badly changed (as in oil to long in engine and not even doing a oil change propper) wich cuased the hydroilic (dno how ya spell that) vaulves to actualy not get any oil so the vaulves didnt open propper....
cold it started .. ran fine ... bang engine stalled... waited and it would run again.
Some dirt got in the oil line going up to the valve head and clogged it up.

yes..check..
yes, check everything they told you plus your spark plugs, and if none of that shows anything, then your throttle boddy idle sensor. Also, if i was you for something like that I would take it to the dealer (if you have one still) and see if all your recalls and everything are up to date and that none of the plugs and electical harnesses going into your major mechanical components are loose or warped.
I had the same problem with my car. Actually many problems with my car! It shut down on me once and then i had to try 5 times before i started it again! Finally i got it, took it to the shop and the mechanic said i had a bad spark plug, needed a new fuel filter and a new air filter. That solved only half my problems. The Check Engine light comes on for a day then disappears and then comes on and disappears. The mechanic cant figure out wat is wrong. Could it just be the sensor?? The car seems to run fine now just that one light that just wont go away!!!!
first off before you do anything i would hook it up to a OBDII reader and see what the computer is saying, after that i would chech all the parts as needed and replace anything or what ever but here is the deal
there was a recall on the lanos (dont know what year) and the recall was about a harness in the passenger side floor. to much traffic (lots of passengers) and it would wear the wires out and cause the car to stall all the time
when i first bought my car
the first day i drove it it started to stall on me. never did it again though
also if your check engine like comes on and off its most likly that you have a bad wire leading to a sensor, next time your light is on run to a autozone or parts store and have them check the code. if it says that there is no signal coming from a sensor then it has a bad wire or is dead
running with a bad sensor wont kill your car, the car is set up to run when sensor go bad, the computer will switch to a preprogramed mode called open loop and run not using the sensor imput data sometimes you will get crapy milage or even feel like the car just wont go, when my car was in open loop i used gas like crazy but had more power do to the emissions being turned off
if the sensor is faulty it could cause the car to stall. it will be telling the computer that something is happening when its not causing it to react and alter how it is running
