If it is the starter it's at the back of the engine and it's not the easiest thing to get at unless you can get right under the car with a lift or way up on jack stands ( 8" off the ground ideally )

The sound you describe could be the starter, but it could also be something more expensive.

Is the transmission an automatic or manual ?

the starter is hard to get to, its under the intak manifold. it is possable to get to it with out a lift but you need your friend gumpy to bring you his rubber arms.

Its an automatic... Any thoughts what else it might be?

Also would it be possible to get to it easy if I was to remove the intake manifold?

Starter making a grinding sound? Don't they just click/not do anything when they break? Or could the actuator on the starter be broke and it stuck out so when the car turns over and fires it grinds and stalls the car?

The sound it makes does sound like if you were to start the car while it was already started... Problem with not doing it myself it they want an arm and a leg to work on it since there is only one shop that will work on Daewoos... So I will be up under her tomorrow luckily I have small arms and hands... After I fix this I get to find where my coolant is leaking out at... Im about ready to blow the car up...

No.... taking off the intake is a huge job..... if you can get right under the car the starter is not to bad to get at.

Odds are if you tapped the starter with a hammer it would retract the gear mechanism and allow you to get it running again.

It's a short term fix but most of the time it works.

Basicly there is a spring which returns the gear back to the position where it's not in contact with the flywheel.... sometimes the shaft sticks and the spring is not enough to move it back out of the way.

If you tap it with a hammer a couple of times it should allow the shaft to slide back to it's rest position.

who knows... you might tap it once and it might be good for years.... or it might need to be tapped every single time you start the car ( one person cranking the other ready to tap the starter when the engine starts running to retract the gear )

If I am looking @ the bottom of the engine where would the starter be located? I know if you go from the top its under the intake manifold but what am I looking @ from underneath?

Usually at the back of the gearbox, behind the engine kinda direction.

Bumped starter and it starts but was told when it started it sounded like chains rattling around... Also found coolant leak, when milky oil was found... So my coolant is leaking into my oil...

Well.... that's good that it started and bad that you have a coolant/oil mixture issue.

The two would not be related, most likely cause of the second problem is a leaking head gasket

Is it possible that the noise thats heard when the car starts could be a head bolt came loose which would also cause the coolant leak?

If its the head gasket I will probably wind up writing the car off and blowing it up or selling it...

It would be pretty tough I read all the stuff that you have to take off the engine to replace the gasket like the timing belt and all that or did I read the wrong thing??? Im just hoping the noise that we are hearing is nothing sever...
