Underdrive pulley's

Post by azazel19 »

no price quote until they get a pulley and make a prototype to see how complex things will be and if it can even be done. after that stage price quotes will be available. i'm also in the chrysler 300M club and we did the same thing got the company to make a prototype and the rest is history it's available for purchase and it's 125 dollars u.s. for the 300M so i'm going to assume it's going to be the around that price.

got some pics of an asp underdrive crank pulley off the dodge intrepid forum, it's the same on i have in my 300M same engine size etc. it just a reference to show how big and bulky crank pulley's are and how much smaller the asp underdrive pulley is. enjoy.

I'd buy it. It looks like a pretty good pulley and as long as it doesn't dim the lights or cause the ac to not blow cold, we're good. $125 for 5-10 hp gain isn't bad.

you can find a junkyard in your area by going to http://www.car-parts.com and looking up the parts you need.

I have decided to send the pulley, but I have not yet driven out to where my parts car is kept. It is almost 2 hours from my house near Richmond at my parent's house because I can not keep a parts car where I live or the city will tow it, then bill me for the towing and then fine me $100 for keeping an undrivable car in the yard.

I plan on getting the pulley this coming Saturday and I will then call to set up shipping it to them this coming week.

azazel19 ... I just looked at Mapquest and you are only 4 hours away from me. I think you are the closest person on the forum to me.

Ok everyone, I am at my parent's house today and I removed the pulley from my parts car, so I can take it home with me this evening.

I will find out about shipping it to have a new pulled made.

$125 USD ??? are you serious

I don't know what they normally go for but damn..... I'm in the wrong business.... maybe I should get into manufacturing aftermarket pullies. :D

I can't belive that they are that much..... they are made of aluminum right ??

As someone with over 10,000 hours experience on a lathe I'm somewhat confused about how something so simple could cost so much.

Honestly.... I can't imagine this taking more than 2 minutes of CNC machine time for the general forming plus another 2 minutes for the bolt holes. Sure there is the prep time and the original CNC programming costs but $125 US is way too much money in my opinion.

I can't imagine material costs being more than $5 and the machining should be say $20 at most (aluminum is very easy to machine so it costs less than steel or stainless) (almost everything I make is stainless steel)

So say the cost is $25.... that means these guys are probably making $100 USD per pulley.

hmmm I wonder if a pulley of a 1.6L pontiac lemans/optima is the same.... maybe I will go check it out this week and pull one off if it is a match.

I will price out material costs and check with insurance and lawyers about manufacturing underdrive pullies.

My only worry is that there could be a liability if your decreasing the amount of power to the power steering pump..... if someone got in an accident because their steering "froze up" they could sue me.

Also what's the possiblity of them doing the lightweight power and water pump pullies? I'd like to buy them all as a set. Is there any email contact for this company?
