Clean ur trunk!
get rid off extra weight... (maybe even back seats will loose some pounds)
Intake
Nice sound and probably 3 hp more to your car
-Dont run 93 octane fuel, waist of money and no performance from it
catback exhaust, should give u 3-4 hp more and nice sound to ur exhaust (localy they do it for 40$ w/ muffler)
thats about all can be done (to me)

^^^what he said. but +
change oil, +oil filter
if its a used car, replace timing belt, tensioner, water pump(maybe for ur car)
you can do the cat back, but also you can make the pipe shorter.. just make sure to vent it from the side of the car, dont leave it vent underneath the cabin.
also, can do a semi forced air intake..create a box to go around ur filter, then put a good sized pipe from front of car (on my lanos, i can use the foglight hole on the bumper) then make it go to ur box, but also make sure the box is for the most part sealed. (yes this only works when air is moving into the pipe.)
dont have the A/C running when u want to go "fast"
kick other people out of the car, they = dead weight.
if you want to be risky, drop the spare tire too. (wouldnt recommend, neverrrrr know when it might come in handy)
adjust ur throttle body (sure its "tuned by the manufacture" already.. but they have such a wide range of tolerance. perfection is the key. wht i mean is that when YOU floor the pedal, you want the "throttle plate" to be right in the middle, a straight line. so have someone (with the car off) floor the pedal, and u adjust the cable, also, the idle you can mess with, but be careful.)
sparkplugs! always fun to have the 'good enough' ones. plus
sparkplug wires.
fuel filter (if its a used car)
if you also want to drop some money, fuel pump to push even more fuel to the rail when its in demand.
tranny fluid +filter (if its used)
anyone have more great ideas?

the fuel pump will do nothing with a stock engine. the fuel pressure is set, and it will not exceed the set pressure. even if it did you would only run the car rich, there is not enough air comming in to constitute more fuel. if he slapped a turbo on then thats a totaly different story, lol

yeah. upgraded fuel pump is used for when bigger injectors are used in a forced induction setup (ie turbo or supercharger). or if the engine has had the ever loving shit built out of it!
