Smell gas and hissing sound

Post by burples10 »

Hello again all,

I have a issue that just arose today with my fiance's lanos. There is a smell of gas inside the car and when you get out you can smell it in the rear. I can also now hear a hissing sound that I did not hear before underneath from the rear. It also makes this noise when the ignition is first turned on. MY guess is fuel pump, regulator, or loose line. The car seems to be running fine other than that and gas mileage appears to be the same. Also the car is not throwing any codes. And help with were to start would be appreciated. Thanks

look for any gas leaks. also, look on the right side of the car (passenger side in america) for the fuel vapor box... sniff around it and see if a hose has come loose or something

Thanks for the quick reply. I breifly looked under the car earlier around the evap canister and all visible lines. I did not see any type of leak(wetness) unless it is evaporating right away. But I will check the lines again. Anything else that should stand out from the ordinary to look for if there is a leak?

again thanks

indeed gas will evaporate super fast but it will leave a trace so you gotta be... whats the word? for "extra precise" while looking for that.

also remove the rear seat and look for leaks from the fuel pump lines.
