What oil???

Post by mr_sikma »

Hey,

We have a 1.6 lanos with around 78k kms on it.

Just going to change the oil and filter, what weight oil would you recommend?

I am thinking 10w-40 or maybe 15w-50?

Also how much oil with the filter will it take?

Thanks

Hey Mr. S.,

From the Daewoo Lanos Factory Service Manual :

Oil capacity~ 3.75L (4 qt) ..it does not say how much extra with a filter change maybe a third of a (US) quart ?
Oil weight~ SAE 5W-30, SAE 10W-30... ILSAC GF-11 (API SJ)

I use Shell 15-40 Rotella T (dino) in my cars and motorcycle.

I have also used Castrol 20-50 (dino) in cars with mileage over 50~60K (us miles) or Castrol 10-40 for lower mileage vehicals.
Castrol is also good for very hot climates..like the one I am in. :)

For a filter? check out this thread:

thanks for the replies!

5w-30 is VERY thin.

i am thinking the 10-40 should be fine...

i am in australia with pretty high temps, so 5-30 wouldnt be too good i dont think?

for the lanos in sustralia. i would use hpr10 or hpr 15 in a penrite.
it's much better oil to use over castrols magnatec.

the 43som lanos used to run 10, the nubira currently uses 15w.

motuls a good oil, but you pay through the nose for it. also the penrite offers high protection, the nbira is switching from a 15-40 to a 15-50.
