Steering Making Noise

Post by SuperDuperDaewoo »

When I turn the wheel on my 2002 Daewoo Lanos it makes strange growling noise. Anybody know what this might be and how I might fix it? Thank you.

What if instead of a growling its more like a "chirping" ? or "cricket: sound ? (sorry dont know the exact way to describe it...)

Sounds like to me with the chirping or cricket sound would be the outer tie rods.
If i am not mistaken they dont have a lubrication port on them they are sealed nylon
sockets. You can get some silicone spray or wd-40 and spray it on the joints and it
will stop it temporarily. Get some new tie rods and it will go away for good.

while driving?? is the sound produced while the car is moving only?? if so then it can't be a steering problem.

Fluid was low. Second time in less than 5 months. I must have a leak somewhere. Now I just have to find it.

Ok, heres the soundfile.

Mmadouh, sorry, by driving I meant while Im parking the car. I dont hear the noise while driving at regular speeds or taking turns. Its mostly when I have to steer the wheel at very low speeds (like when u try to park between two cars) that it starts screeching.

This was recorded from the drivers side, but the passengers side makes the same noise as well.

Oh and BTW, should I make a new topic? I dont want to hijack duper's thread :)

thanks!
