(i know... they are HUGE... deal with it)
****EDIT**** pics were resized.... better for internet browsing

the hole is cut in the hood... but the problem is there is a support beam right smack dab in the middle of that... so the scoop has yet to be cut out... i'm working on a way to mount a filter box right there or maybe an intercooler, but i have to make a smooth transition around the beam... fiberglass isn't my specialty, but i have access to alot of it so it won't be a problem to get done. i will post a pic later that shows the underside and how it correlates to the engine...
thats a big ass spoiler you got their... any more pics for that??

i'd get pics today but it's raining
i have a very specific reason for it too!!!
i'll post the corner weight readings from my woo and show you weight distro... and then weigh distro at 60 mph... goes from like 70/30 to almost 50/50... excellent balance! (i need to scan the sheet)...
***edit***
i went out into the rain and took a few pictures... here they are...
i know the engine bay is dirty... and my valve cover is off... this is the day after all the craziness happened with the chocochip dissappearance...
and yes... that's a pvc 45 degree piece... i'm getting a powder-coated one from shuan soon...

thats cool man
how did you get the car's weight at 60MPH??

i'm majoring in mechanical engineering with emphasis on race car development. anyway, we have a full-scale wind tunnel with a dyno/weight apparatus inside. for my design project last semester i worked on the effects of down-force on street cars. A lot of the guys here at school in the scca drive huge rear-wheel drive cars and make fun of me for havig a wing... so i went and proved my point.
the handeling characteristics of a properly balanced woo is crazy... i don't have stut bars yet... but i can't imagine it with them (it'll be like it's on rails!)
now drag-wise... your accel is crap, but the stability outweighs the drag. if my woo was a drag car... i wouldn't have the wing on there...

Do you happen to know how much it would be to have your car tested like that in a wind tunnel? cuz im having problems over 80mph if i get there fast and especialy at 110 it feels like im going to start flying if its windy (althoguh i had the car up to 135 once but that was with lots of extra weight). In about two weeks ill be out at the track again and every lap i brake 100mph so i NEED down force. Im planning on doing a hood scoop like you have to help with that and cooling off the engine also.
Sorry to kinda hijack your post.. you can PM me if you rather do that

oh it's cool...
as for testing, i'm not sure of any place that will do it for you... i mean, NASCAR just had one built this past year and it's like 10,000 bucks a day to use. i got lucky that my program here has a connection with denso car parts and gets money to buy stuff like that. which car is it in question? i know that the lanos when going over 80 starts to REALLY lift in the back end. when you start to lose rear weight the car becomes unstable.
if i knew what kind of car it was and atleast some sort of weight distro i could help you out.
see if you can find a metal scrap yard near by and ask if you can weight your car... they should have a giant scale for weighing trucks... get an over-all weight, a weight with only the front wheels on the scale, and a weight with only the rear wheels on the scale. you can assume the weight to be the same left to right... maily because the sloshing of gas and the driver/passenger change the weight, but only in small amounts. besides, the changing of the weight from side to side is really difficult without changing front to back. if you can get those numbers you can get an idea of distro. i might make a how-to with the blessings of the admins about determining weight distro for down-force.

if you look closely, the wings have a compound profile. i used the end-plates and mounting hardware from a crappy wing from "liteglow" and used the manufacturing center here at school to extrude my own profiles. also... the over-all shape of the lanos sedan is very prone to flutter above the rear deck (flutter is a chaotic and random flow of air that creates voids). by modifying the rear shape of the car, the aero properties change dramatically. the point of the wing on the woo is that effectively i've changed the profile of the car from that of a notch-back to that of a longer hatch-back with a flipped up spoiler. i'll supply some graphics exaplining it to anyone interested (llama).

Yeah im intrested.. i just started learning about that stuff this past week so i dont know much. One thing i do know thoguh is you have to be carfull with a wing.. cuz it can slow you down. Esepcaily if the air coming off the wing hits the air coming from under the car wrong (forgot the word for it already).
How much was that wing btw?
And how much can a hood scoop help downforce? Ive heard that it help but i can see it hurting just as bad cuz the air is going through the engine (cooling it off though) and then under the car and it seams to me that'd lift up the car more
