Nubira 2.0 CDX Manual Gearbox stuck

Post by johnfrancis »

97 Nubira Manual Gearbox stuck in gear. I have had no problems with slippage or noise until today when I found it hard to change gear when I was driving home...finally got it into 2nd gear and drove some distance home up hills and no slippage or noises..I did a quick bleed of the clutch slave cylinder and watched the arm move that throws out the release bearing(thrust bearing) but I wonder if slave cylinder mechanism is really moving far enough..I do not feel much pressure on the clutch pedal...could it be a problem with the hydraulics?

You say it's stuck in gear, but can you shift through the gears when the car is not running?

If when stopped you can shift back and fourth then that is normal, if you have a very hard time moving it into gears when the car is off then it's more likely an issue with the gearbox itself or the linkage connecting your shifter to the gearbox.

Given the lack of slippage and the force you mention I am leaning towards misaligned/worn/damaged linkage.

For your car there is a specific procedure for realigning but you need to be able to access the bolt that connects your shifter to the linkage.
