Watch out when you do brakes service

Post by MMamdouh »

just wanna throw in a warning to you guys when you do service your brakes... pump you brakes pedal till you get back the regular resistance you usualy feel when braking.

i was checking my brakes and pads today and i forgot to do the pumping procedure before i drive, i started to move the car but their was a guy passing in front of me on foot so i pressed the brakes and their was nothing  it was just like pressing the throttle all the way to the fire wall, i had to yank the hand brakes or else i would have hit the guy... it would be a shame to be involved in a 1 Km/h accedent after all the high speed crazy stuff i did back when i was young

please guys don't neglect such procedure as it is very important... it took me some 15 pumps to get back some braking feel in the pedal so their was no way i was going to get any braking if i did drive the car much faster and tried to stop... i hope no one has to reach this conclusion the hard way as i did, guys be careful.

Also a helpful tip when doing your brakes:

Never, Never, NEVER, let your brake fluid go below the "MIN" mark or even worse let it fully drain out. Something will happen (not air bubbles), but you will lose good functions of your brakes, especially the rear brakes. the rear shoes will basically not hit tightly with the drum and will sort of "polish" the drum so that no matter how hard you hit the brakes the car will come to a slow stop, not the dashboard biting you are used to.

I have seen it happen on a Mazda Protege and had it happen on my Lanos. I've only recently seen an improvement on my Lanos, but no matter how much bleeding or other service, the car still doesn't have that same "bite" it used to.

Any ideas?

did you bleed the master cylinder when your brakes fluid level was too low?? i personally didn't know that you have to bleed the master when doing a brakes fluid flush before, only thought you bleed the front and rear calipers only.

could be some air stranded in the proportional valves area or so.
