Power Button on Automatic Shift Lever

Post by naznomad »

Hi,on my 99 Lanos there is a button midway down the shift lever with 'power' written next to it. I don't have any manuals for the car,and I searched here but couldnt find an answer,I wasnt sure what it is called so its hard to come up with keywords.. I'm sure someone here knows what that button is for.
Does it work or is it a redundant feature on some models / for future use etc .?
thanks.

it makes the shifts between gears longer for more power, hence "POWER".

i.e: 1st to 2nd, at 28mph instead of 15mph, just delays the shifting.

My first gear seems to stay in first longer than it should, maybe the button is stuck.Although the button itself moves in and out easily with no resistance, maybe the internal bit is stuck. At roughly what speed should it normally change from 1st to second?

i have a manual lanos, but normally taking off with no heavy foot, about 12-17 mph. I also had a car that changed at 17-22, but it should be around 15 ish.

Just been out and tested it,and it seems that it does work as it's supposed to.From first to second gear it changes at about 16mph with it off,and with it on it changes at about 21mph.I tried to use even pressure on the gas pedal in each test. I think i must have had it on before without realising it,thats why it was changing gear later than i thought it should.
I think I will leave it off and save a bit more gas unless i really need to use it. I got the car as a gas saver,so it wouldnt make sense for me to get more power out of it and end up wasting more gas !!!!!

OK,next project, get some decent sound in it !!
