ABS Light Came On

Post by BosnianLanos »

Just like what the title said, yesterday after maybe 2 hours off the battery (remaking wiring kit), I turned my car on and drove for a few minutes. After maybe 35 seconds, the ABS light came on and stayed on. Came on every other ignition cycle afterwards. Braking works fine even though I know ABS doesn't have anything to do with basic braking.

I checked the Fuses and everything was OK. Checked Fluid OK. Checked ABS pump connections OK.

I don't know if it is a glitch due to the ECU reset or something worse. Anyone have anything like this happen to them? Any ideas?

Well, ABS is fully functioning. I did a heavy brake test on a sand covered strip of pavement in my neighborhood and I didn't skid at all.

So, now, that makes the Airbag Light, Check Engine Light, and ABS Light on with the car functioning perfectly. My cluster looks like a damn Christmas Tree with all the lights.

I'm thinking it could be a malfunctioning computer.

I think I'm just gonna take out the little bulbs and be done with it.

Anyone have any better ideas?

Did that too. I guess I'll just to to Advance Auto Parts and see if it is possible for them to pick up the ABS or Airbag Light. If nothing concrete comes up, I'm taking the bulbs out.

Bosnian...come now. If you did work on the WIRING of the car and then afterwards you have a problem with ELECTRICAL items...Err...do you think that MAYBE you screwed something up with the wiring?? Retrace your steps.

Trust me man, I checked all the fuses, relays, etc. I even painstakingly did the voltmeter checks without the fuse and all the voltages were within the limits. I was only redoing ground wires, so I'm sure I didn't screw anything up, there were no shorts or anything. It doesn't feel like anything is wrong with the car, but my car keeps telling me there is.

Maybe I got one of them rare hypochondriac Lanoses.

Why me! Couldn't I have just had a nice misfire or headgasket explosion or brake problems. At least something I could pinpoint and fix! Jinx!

Maybe the 190,128 miles have something to do with it?

Oh well, I'll look further into it tomorrow.

Yeah, I was hoping that it wasn't that, but I'm out of ideas. There wasn't a Lanos on the yard last time I was there, but I will go to a different one and see if I have any luck.

I was gonna suggest to you that perhaps the battery ground was bad. But since you mentioned fiddling with the wires themselves I deviated from that point. Now that you've mentioned that it was the ground wires you were toying with then I am pretty sure that somewhere along the line there is insuficient ground.

And get this...if your ECU was damaged after you did the wire-work then it stands to reason that the problem still exists. Replacing the ECU will perhaps lead you to the same problem. Find the cause of this failure first.

Gentlemen, Permission to haze and ridicule me harshly.

After a going over again, I found that my battery to body ground screw had broken, but not all the way through. So today, I was tugging on my ground wires and the entire assembly came apart. the bottom of the screw still in the body and the head of the screw somewhere else. After replacing it, the ABS light came off and stayed off.

Problem solved. Damn American screws!

I swear, I have an IQ of like 154 but my Daewoo makes me look dumber and dumber every day  .

Thanks to all who helped and to Tango who thought of the ground issue.

Next, I tackle my Airbag light, which came on like 6 months ago.
