Lanos, max speed in 4th or 5th gear?
Lanos 1,5, 2001, SOHC 86 HP. stock tyres 175/70/13. I tried max speed several times in 4th as well as in 5th gear, and always tacho shows speed about 175 km/h, what is very close to manual info of 172 km/h. My question is, in what gear, 4th of 5th, car is suposed to reach max speed, or maybe factory design max spead to be the same in both gears?
i always thought the woo can reach its max speed in 4th... 5th is just to lower the revs and save fuel.

I know my Optra has a higher max speed in 5th than 4th. 4th maxes out the RPMs before I reach top speed.

When I had my 1.5L SOHC Lanos I hit 175km/h several times in 5th gear..... takes a while but it will do it on a dead flat road with no wind.
Downhill with the wind behind the car..... I'm sure it would do more.... but I personally didn't want to "push it" any further.
I was actually very surprized at how solid the car felt at that speed..... I was more concerned about the tires than anything.

In the end..... it doesn't matter if your in 4th or 5th..... the car doesn't have enough horsepower to push it any faster without some help.
I have no doubt that a 1.5SOHC could hit 200Km/h if you managed to get the horsepower up into the 100hp range.

Actually, in my case, it does matter as I do not have rev meter installed. So I am, wondering whether at sped over 170 km/h in 4th gear, maybe my engine is overreved or not.chris@PrecisionBoost wrote:In the end..... it doesn't matter if your in 4th or 5th..... the car doesn't have enough horsepower to push it any faster without some help.
.....
you can't over revthe engine, the ecu will cut the fuel and prevent the engine from going past 6500 and get damaged.

Hi
I got a Lanos 1.4 8v, Ive got a cherry bomb backbox exhaust,
uprated Sachs Clutch, New factory flywheel, Kn'N Panel air filter
wih extra inlet duct, Uprated plugs n leads.
I got 50mph in 2nd, 80mph in 3rd, then put it into 4th n got to 105mph,
Top speed 115mph
Im looking to see if a Astra manifold sports one fits. Im also looking to get racing
omega pistons and rods.
