Gear Shifting Noise

Post by koh »

Hi, Guys,

Need your help. My Lanos II 1.5 manual has a strange noise when I attempt to change gear. The moment I changed gear, there is a noise similar to the noise of sand rubbing. It seems that there is no grease in the gear stick slot.

I did open up the gear stick cover but I cannot trace the noise.

When I am cruising, the noise comes back. But, when I hold the gear stick. It is gone. Is there any way that I can put grease into the gear stick slot ?

I have a 1.6L woo manual and i had a similar problem. My solution was grease the shifter and rod which is in the car. I used white lithium grease works great. I bought a can of spray silicone lube this stuff works wonders and I sprayed the shifter linkages which are under the hood goes directly into the gear box. I sprayed all the moving parts the moved the shifter around and sprayed some more. Make sure the engine is cool and let it vent for a while you don't want any vapors exploding. should help. also get your tranny fluid changed I switched to synthetic mobil 1 75W90 gear oil. hope it helps

Gear Stick Noise

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I guess the noise only lies with the gear stick and not relate to the gear box oil. Am I right ?

yeah it should just be the shifter or linkage just lube the shifter contact points and the shifter linkage assembly that goes into the gear box. it should be behind the battery near the firewall just lube it up and it should shift smoothly. if you clean your engine with degreaser this will get rid of the lithium grease that was on the linkage assembly which will cause rough shifts. grease it up and enjoy.
