it is so strange that GM did that but I cant imagine that tell I decided to change my gauges light color . I found that they cover the LCD !!!!!
leave a small part for the ODO meter and they hide the rest of the lcd with more functions hidden
I want to have access to the how to and mod forum to explain how to do that
here is the project

Whoa whoa, what!?! How did you change the color on those gauges? I have the same ones in my 09' hatch and I tried but it looked like the little diodes were part of the cluster so mine are still green.

Re: I upgrade my Aveo's guages
it is not easy nor hard. you must have some tools to do the job . You will need to buy SMD lids . it is famous this days . you can buy them from radio shack or any other dealer. the hard part is how to dissassimple the guages cluster . you must have the hot air based welder. you must remove the LCD module - which weldered to the guages Board. or you can - the hard way - to remove the green lids from the upper side of the guages after removing the needles by hand. it is easy to remove but keep care. weld the new leds
and enjoy

Please! Very intersted, a couple of us on aveoclub.net have taken our new 09 clusters apart to try with no success. I'm about to break down and buy a Pontiac G3 cluster.
