there are a couple 1.6 small block motor, the common one over there would be the X16, the common over here is the A16. they use the same block but a VERY different head design. I strongly recomend doing the timing belt asap and use a good brand like Gates or and OE. the timing belts are the only thing that ever go on any of these motors and when they do it's lights out.

As Garrett said. For peace of mind, do it every 40k like the guy said. Any decent brand should last longer than that. But, again, for peace of mind do it ever 40/50k. If the belt goes, not only will you be out a few hundred quid, you'll just kick yourself for not changing it. When they go, they just dont leave you stranded, being an intereance engine, when the cams stop moving and the pistons keep going, the pistons will come up and smack the valves, bending anywhere from like 2, to 16. depending on the position of the cam. Pretty gruesome, for the sake of changin a belt every once in a while.
It really is just an old vauxhall engine like the guy said. The bottom half is most likely almost identical to a wee Vauxhall Corsa's lol. Bit offputting me saying that, but wouldnt worry, they're a great bassis for a good engine. That is if it's small block like garrett said. think it is though.
As Garrett said, again, yours is most likely the X16 motor, the X being a different emissions standard from the A. And they achieve it through the head and inlet manifold design mainly.
I have to admit, there's not a lotta Lacetti's driving about here either, in N.Ireland. I really do like them though, moreso the Saloons and Estates rather than the Hatches. Some saloons look truely awesome. Have you ever seen the Lacetti touring car? Wow. What a car like. Absolutly love the look of it.
