It's at the back of the gearbox, and is accessible from the topside of the engine.

Ignore the red box in this picture. It's where the cream coloured oval shaped plastic part is on the top right of the gearbox in this picture. Judging by your message your dashes speed is made by pulses, meaning it's electronic, so there should be a large thing over that cream plastic bit, a transducer of some sort. Others are cable driven, the cable goes in the same place though.

i need to connect a taxi meter to it , should be somewhere behind the dashboard (control panel),usually the wire is green and white on other cars.

Saying the wires green and white is honestly no help at all. Pretty much every cars different. As i said, some cars are fed via cable for the speedo. Others are electronic like mine, and most likely, yours.

That part of the gearbox i told you about, the 'transducer' should have 3 wires coming off it. You can trace them back under the dash if you unsheath them at the gearbox to get their colours correct. It'll run through the hole in the bulkhead along with the ecu loom most likely.then under the dash to the back of the Clocks/intrument panel.

Sounds like a fuse in all honesty, even though you've checked them.

Were you fiddling with something or did they just go off themselves?

There's no relay for dash lights as far as i know.

Relay for indicators and foglights, but not sidelights/dashlights I don't think. Or maybe there is. Sorry i'm really not sure. Hopefully someone else can help ya figure it out cause it sounds a bit odd to me.

sorted :D
was a fuse ,took me 2 hours to find it using a voltmeter.
at the look was ok but instead was gone, so now everything is ok.
i am wondering regarding the fuel warning light now.
im try to see what mileage per gallon this car does and wanted to refuel soon the fuel light would come on,but been driving for a wile and the fuel indicator as been to the red zone for at list 20miles without the warning light coming on,so is there a way to test if the light is working ??
thank you

I don't know about the Lacetti m8. On my car there;s a part on the fuel tank underneath with 3 wires coming off it, i know you can test the fuel light there by giving it a live feed. Yours might be different. Only other way i know off, to test the bulb, not the actual thing inside the tank, is to take out the ash and arc the wire for the bulb, off the chassis somewhere, seeing as they're switch negative it'll light the bulb up.

I don't know anyway of testing the actual mechanism inside the tank [usually just a float like in a toilet], without actually taking the damn thing out.

Apart from the obvious ofc, and running the car dry and watching for the light :P

on my hold ford focus there was a method to light all the warning light to see if they were working, was a combination of the ing key and the button that reset the miles on the odo.
i was hopping that the lacetti had something similar.
look like other members cant bother to post any answers, thank you for your collaboration mate !!!!!!!

Anytime fella. And the forums not all that adctive these days and has 90% american members lol. I'm guessing you're from the UK seeing as you said you're going for an MOT. How did it do btw?

And i dunno, there might be something like that. Honestly dunno, never heard of it before. I've a digital dash in mine, so when you turn the reds on, all the lights light up anyway :)

Hey Barrile, sorry more of us could be a help. like Paul said most of the members are from Canada, US and Central America. all of the Lacettis (Optra/Reno) around the America came with a version of the X20XEV. it's not that we're putting you off it's just that if we don't know 100% then we wont risk pointing you in the wrong direction.

this brings up a good reason to give a big thanks to Paul, Rodd, Stefan and all the rest of the members in the UK and Ireland for the work they put in!

Something else too add. Was talkin to an uncle of mine who owns a Vectra. He' susing an F17 on his [never even heard of this until today] and his car's got a hydraulic clutch. Now, i had to check it out seeing as i've never heard it, first off, i couldnt find the F17 stamp on it as it wasnt behind the gear linkage, secondly, his speedo didnt connect in the place i told you to look. It's somewhere else, didnt get long to look at it.

Sorry to hijack the post, just thoguht i'd let you know it might not be where i said afterall, the signal pulse wire you're after. There was an extra connection on the front side of his gearbox as you look at it from the engine bay, a sensor, that mine doesnt have. Didnt seem like a reverse light switch as it wasnt where mine was. Similar bellhousing, seemed a bit bigger in places though. Will make a seperate topic about it. Wanna know more about the hydraulic clutch boxes.

gse_turbo nice to see one more member in this post :D
regarding the mot, everything went well, the lacetti did attract a few peoples wile was on the mot bay, they look surprise, they never have noticed one around :D .
after opening the bonnet the comment of the guy that was mot testing the car was .....HA HA HA a hold vauxhall astra engine.......then added that is essential to change timing belt and water punp every 40k on this engines.
can anyone add some info regarding this engine, like age and what other cars as been fitted to,a bit of history.

regarding the speed sensor ,sorted.
there are 2x plugs on the transmission, the most front one is the reverse, the one most back is the speed sensor.
there are 3x wires on the back sensor, ground - positive + and a pulse wire, this one is dark green with the white stripe, and goes all the way to the back of the odo.
so i connected the taxi meter to i and it works like a beauty.

ps:to anyone trying to take out their cd/radio unit from the lacetti may want to know that is bolted ,so you need to pull out all the center console and then unscrew 2x bolts.(same on the chevy tacuma)
thank you again
