I just wondered...
I'm 25 now and I'm not exactly where I thought I'd be by now. In high school I thought I'd be way ahead of where I am now...
anyone else like that? I mean I just wonder how many people have competely different lives than they planned. I thought I'd have purchased a house by now instead of still renting...etc. etc. I'm not complaining...I have a great life. I just wonder what would've happened if I'd done things differently.
But at least my life has a direction now. I'll be back in school in the fall semester and will be attempting to get into medical school the next fall.

thats the way life goes really....You never end up where you think you would....you do things differently, you have life experiances, altercations happen, you meet ppl that change your views and the path you originally took has changed to a new one. but good luck!

Well.... I've done pretty good for myself but I started really early... I started investing in the stock market when I was 16 years old..... by the time I was 25 I already had a nice 3 story 1200sq ft condominium and was in the midst of buying a lake house.
But..... I will tell you as a person who at the age of 35 has pretty much everything.... it's all a pile of crap..... it means nothing.
You get this idea drummed into you that you need to live in a nice house with a nice wife and 2 children one boy one girl.
Guess what.... buying houses and mini-vans and new clothes for the kids an diapers and everything else that comes with this ideal life justs makes us a slave to our jobs.
As you get more payments and more responsibilities your forced to compromise what you really want to do with what you need to do to keep ahead of the "game"
The better you do the more you spend..... you never really get ahead.... you just get newer stuff.... you get nicer stuff.
But that is what you get.... a pile of "STUFF" that mean nothing.
You know who gets to enjoy all the stuff like motorboats and lake cabins and stuff like that?
Kids.... yup.... kids really enjoy it.
But for you or I.... well it means more work... put the dock out... get the boat ready... cut the lawn... replace some of the deck boards... chop wood... pay insurance.... pay land tax... pay for electricity... pay for natural gas.... go get gas for the boat... clean off all the bird crap from the deck and the boat...wax the boat... drive the boat while the kids have fun on the tube............ and if your lucky.... go out for 20 minutes on the tube or wakeboard.
When it comes down to it...... more stuff = more payments = more work = less time
Don't get me wrong.... buying a house is nice..... but it leads to a pile of work and hard earned money going towards payments.
I'm not saying you should rent all your life.... but you should certainly try to enjoy life before you settle down and try to get into buying a house.
A house is like being rooted..... once you've got it you find it very hard to leave and go somewhere else.
Hopefully you get what I'm saying here..... money does not equal happiness..... enjoying life equals happiness.
The more stuff you have the less opportunities you have to do stuff that make you happy.

mmmmhhhhhmmmmm i can wholeheartedly agree with this 110%. I got a job that paid me a lil more so i got more "stuff" and that meant more bills and im now poorer. life is about decisions and living with your consequences of those decisions. now i gotta cut back and lose "stuff".

im pretty much where i thought id be. id got a decent job, a house, and some nice stuff. but chris it right. its very hard to get/stay ahead. all i can say is do what you want and dont try to "keep up with the Joneses" in all reality say fuck you to the Joneses. if you happy thats all that matters.

I must admit I am happy where I'm at now. And at least I've found the job I really want. I've talked with several people through my job who are surgeons and I've decided that's what I will do. I've always enjoyed learning about medicine and the human body so it just makes sense. I've decided that I want to be a pediatric gastric surgeon. It'll take me another ten years but it'll be worth it when I'm happier at my job.
As for having more money means more bills. I know exactly what you mean. I made four times the money I made in 2007 in 2008, but I still live day to day cause I bought alot of the things I always wanted. I can't say that I'm any happier with the new stuff.
