**Feeler** Replacement parts in Fiberglas/CF

Post by whiteraven »

More details to come, but just testing waters on how people would like products in a new fiberglass that is visually identical to Carbon Fiber or the new Silver Carbon. With the current shortage on CF supplies, this alternative materials provides all the same quality and durability, without the hefty price tag.

Current products in process are a engine valve cover and a timing belt cover for the 1.6L DOHC currently used in the Lanos and Kalos (Aveo) cars.

This is the Engine Cover I have to use as the Mold Plug. It will be offered in a smooth (no logo) finish in either Black 'Glass or Billet-Proof 'Glass.

I also have the 2 piece timing cover in process.

Here is an example of what this will look like, but this is a similar product formerly made by Versus Motorsports that was never really publicly available. (I bought the car it was prorotyped on and was told the production costs were prohibitive on making any future ones.)

These are samples of the materials being used, along with the highest quality resins (usually reserved for only Kevlar and Carbon Fiber).

Let me know if this is something the Daewoo community would be interested in.

Very Doable...:)

And I still have my intake box from my Aveo, which should also fit the Lanos...I think.

Anyways, I am also in planning stages for a charge tube cold air intake for the Aveo/Lanos.

I'd like to have one intake like the one in the saxo cup:

You put that carbon fiber thing around the filter and it sucks air directly from the front of the car.

Another interesting fabrication fabric is the mulicolor hybrids that use Kevlar.... I have a link at home for a supplier... I will try and dig it up.

That's exactly the place I found the hybrids about three or four years ago..... wierd that we were both on the same site.

Of course... those hybrids are cool but they are all out of stock (no surprize there )

It was cheap back in the day... damn Iraq war and Airbus stealing all the raw carbon

That's why we are using alternates to Carbon Fiber...a material that is visually identical, easily available, and even cheaper.

Of course the quality will not be diminished...True, you won't get the complete structural benefits of carbon/kevlar, but how often are your car parts under the stresses similar to an airplane?

We are currently geting things started, so stay tuned.

I personally don't like the look of carbon fibre that much.... it's too dark.

So how do they do this grey texture with fibreglass???? Is the glass fiber colored???

I would love a white/grey or very light grey/black fibreglass similar in looks to the hybrids we were talking about.

It's so hard to find unique stuff..... I suppose automotive is the only area that asthetics take precidence over structural specifications.

I find it funny that "tuners" use such strange weaves (just for looks). Real structural carbon is pretty much brown or green :?

Case in point....

WTCC Nubira....

Back on topic... I have lots of parts I'd like someone to make, I just don't have time for the CF mould prep work. These castings I'm doing for the intakes are gonna take about 10 hours a piece as it is, haha

door trims
window trims
mirrors (interior and exterior)
door handles (interor and exterior)
dash (with my motec sitting in it)

I have a buncha structural parts too... but I'd rather do those on my own so my standards of safety are kept to maintain the FIA/NHRA side of things (structural equivalency forms suck)
