At one point we had a big warning up about timing belts.... it's probably a couple years old.... we should definitly put it in the technical forum when Efrain upgrades the site.

I uses to tell everyone to make sure they do it early.... but I guess most of the guys that are active now are newer members.... so perhaps it's time we make a big deal about it again.

The timing belt is the one major bad component on these Daewoo engines... the factory belt sucks..... the timing belts Tom@360D sells are way better quality.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are going to drive me crazy..... why is it that every time a cheap lanos comes up it's 40 bloody hours away from where I live!!!!

I want it..... but.....the shipping alone would cost me $1000 and I can get a running Lanos for around $2500

All I'm asking for is someone to blow up their Lanos somewhere close to me :P

All kidding aside.... I'd buy it in a second if there was some way to get it up here cheap.

I've had a few good deals go south due to the cost of shipping.... my maximum with shipping to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is $1500.

If you figure some way to do that.... the money will be in your pocket faster than you can say western union.

That's why I was trying to stress this to encourage people to replace their belts at 50k miles, but no one listened... I would look for that post, but don't have time now.

i'm going to go out on a limb and suggest a serious checking of the timing belt at 30k...

mine had that terrible slit at 35k and nearly cost me my engine!!!! if i had waited until 50k that engine would have died!

Tom came over today.... I think he said that Opel dealers suggested replacement of the timing belts at 65,000km which is around 40,000 miles

So..... my suggestion is 4 years or 40,000 miles..... which ever one comes first.

This is being overly cautious.... but you have to ask youself it it's worth risking a blow engine..... especially when you can get all the info you need on how to change it yourself by looking through this forum.

Thats good info to know (since mine is an o1 as well). Is replacing a timing belt hard to do if you havent done it before? Again, i know this is a relative question, but I dont mind the work if a novice can pull it off in a day.

BTW, CustomLanos, sorry to hear about your car. I hope things get better in this new year.

too bad you werent still under warranty

my 02 went in for a recall checkup after never servicing it at the daewoo dealer ( worked at hyundai did it myself) and he gave me everything under the sun under warranty , timing belt, axel shafts, ball joints, tierods,an even head gasket all free under warranty,

next time i go i get a water pump and a few other goodies lol, because all these things tend to go at about 120 km anyway, just outta warranty lol, so hes helpfull

I hope whatever you move into you have better luck with
