General changes to forum
I've been talking to Efrain and I think we are both in agreement that the site is cluttered up and needs some reformatting.
I find myself posting something about an interesting aftermarket item in "engines" and it gets pushed to the back within days/weeks because of all the posts about people's cars not starting.
I've allways thought of that forum area as an "aftermarket & performance" area than a " help my blinker fluid is low.... do you think I should get synthetic blinker fluid?? Where can I buy blinker fluid?? "
To me the engine/intake/exhaust should be about Naturally Aspirated peformance modifications and tuning.
As a possible fix.... I propose that these "technical forums" be turned into "aftermarket + performance" forums.
Then individual forums can be made for vehicles.
I would like to propose the following new forums.......
Lanos / Astra MK2 / Lemans / Nexia / Cielo
Nubira / Lacetti / Optra / Forenza / Reno
Leganza / Epica / Magnus / Evanda / Verona
Kalos / Aveo / Wave / Swift+
These will be vehicle specific and the ideal place to post questions about a particular problem or issue.
That way the general maintenence and repairs can be separated from the posts about performance and aftermarket.
I also propose that the 360Dynamics portion be removed (as Tom is no longer in business and it's currently locked)
I also propose a single forum dedicated purely to "tech talk" which is where posts on subjects like decoding turbo compressor information, how engines work, picking the right turbo, high compression vs low compression, methods of changing compression, methods of increasing fuel output, fooling your ECU.... stuff like that.
I've made many technical posts that have ended up twenty pages back...... and when people bring up the same exact conversation it takes an effort to go and find the information.
Needless to say Efrain is in agreement..... but I thought it would be nice to see some input from our board members before changing anything.
So............. what do you guys think???

i think the "car type" division will only result in repeating almost every question at each section, you know our cars shares so many engines and lots of other parts so the problems are kinda common accross all types here so you will probably get every question in each and every car section of the forum.
the separation by maintenance and performance subjects seems a very nice idea... now we are more sepacific towards what issues we address and we won't have to dig for performance related posts that got lost in a thousand maintenance questions.
i am still shouting out loud for a FAQ section that will save us a lot of common/newbuy questions... it is going to be something like the How to section but it is more into general daewoo info that people frequently ask.

Sure.... a FAQ section would be good... I will put that down on my list.
As far as the "car type" division..... it probably would have some repeats..... but that's nothing new.... we get a billion repeats in the engine section.
To me.... it would be easiest to separate by vehicle... even if they have different engines.... if you did it by engine type we'd have a list a mile long.
What might work for the Lanos does not necissarily transfer to the Aveo.
Even if you have a cross over.... you could post a link in the Nubira section showing the specific information from the a Lanos with the same issue.
Plus.... this would give guys who have an Aveo a place of their own to chat about their specific vehicle. ( same with the other cars )

the FAQ section will reduce that for sure... i am positive that the How two section saved us from a ton of repeated questions, the FAQ will be as much effective as the How to.

We talked about that.... but it does create more work and people tend to complain.daewoomofo wrote:it might also be a good idea to have it so ppl cant post until they have been "activated" by a mod or admin. that would cut down on the porn spam
For example.... what if Efrain is away for a whole week..... he might come back and see 50 people waiting to get in.... and it's not allways possible to figure out if guys are from Spam sites.... sometimes they use very simple names that don't indicate anything bad.... until they make their first post.
I don't remember seeing any kind of option to limit newbies from creating new posts..... if there were software additions capable of tracking posts and automaticly configuring the users access abilities then I'd say it would be something we could look at.
My thought is that the "ENGINE/INTAKE?EXHAUST" and "NITROUS/FORCED INDUCTION" be changed just slightly.
Perahps "ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND TUNING - NATURALLY ASPIRATED" and " ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND TUNING - FORCED INDUCTION/NITROUS"
This isn't much of a change but I think that "ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND TUNING" will help newbies with diagnostic questions stay clear of this area of the forum.

I am in agreement to the changes proposed by Chris. I definitely think this forum needs some reorganization.
Something I would like to add.. is it possible to improve the search engine for this forum? Last time I used the search, it brought up so much unrelated garbage, its almost useless.
