I guess it's happening all over..... major spam bot surge....... I think Efrain was working on a way to make them "go away" for good.

I'd imagine an authentication code in the registration would help.

it would be great if they could have it so you have to be aproved to post links, or have it so you cant post "www." or ".com" or ".net" until you have aproval. make it so if some one types that in a post befor they have aproval the post will not go on the board. i dont think there is a mod to do that but if there was someone that could creat it, that would be great!

I'm not sure if Efrain pays per mnoth for a certain amount of Bandwidth and storage, but if so, these bots could eat up the bandwidth... and if he does pay for a certain amount of bandwidth per month =( that could seriously hurt it...

Ok, so I've been running a script on ym pc all day to keep me logged in. Word from the PHPBB community is that if a visible moderator or admin is present on the forums, that spammers will only join... they will not post. I interrupted one when I came on yesterday and had a guess about that, so I looked into it and it's true.

There has been zero spam today although there have been 4 new members... all spammers.

I may appear to be online a LOT of the time... but I'm probably not, haha

I can't see them not posting because you're on. They're not real people, they're bots who will just register again if banned.
