At one time the 'hamster' was an extremely endangered species. They were down to just a few of them left in the wild as their habitat was quickly being gobbled up by people. Then some scientist decided to see if there was something he could do to help the population of hamsters. So he captured a number of them and put them in cages. They quickly found out that hamsters breed REALLY well in captivity. Of course... they're no longer endangered.
