Had the car on the dyno today - power is slightly up - I am a bit dissapointed with the ned result.

Image

I suppose as the ambient temp was 28 degrees celcius, the power increase is OK - 296KW/500NM at the wheels @1.5bar boost :?

Now to get the LSD and put the power in the tar - damn chasing this 12 second 1/4 mile is expensive and exhausting LOL

I finally picked up my LSDiff today - it is from a F28 gearbox from an Opel TS.

Will be fitting it into my F18 box early next week.....will see if the box holds up with the additional traction. also hoping to run a high 12 second 400m with the expected additional traction :D :D :D :D

OK so I ran the car on the 7th of December at the race track - best time for the day was 13.2secs/184KM/h    This with running the LSD and trackbite as well....It was VERY hot (30 degrees Celcius) and most guys were dissapointed with their times. However I was hoping to get into the 12.999999999, but no luck! I dont want to make more power to get the 12`s, so I am thinking of weight reduction - any ideas where to go from here without going overboard and making the Daewoo a full race car???. I would like to keep it street legal Does anybody have a list that specifies the weight on the items on the car??? - like the carpet and underfelt, the door winder mechanisms, fuel tank etc. My tuner says if we lose the carpet and underfelt, and chip out the tar/bitchament they put on the floor of the car for sounhd deadening we could reduce weight by just doing that by round 100KG`s????

underneather the carpets there's loads of padding or something that's quite heavy. for example, in the lanos in the front foot wells all the carpet and sound proofing etc is almost 3 inches (7 - 8 cm) thick, and the thick browny rubbery foam thats there is very heavy. but the actual carpet (top layer) doesnt weigh as much as whats underneath, so thats a start.

the back seats (from what i've experienced) realy arent that heavy but if u dont use them then u mite aswell get rid of them for good measure. you could also take out the toolkit, carjack and spare wheel if u wana try ur luck with that.

big sound systems (if any) can realy weigh down ur car, just keep the minimal amount of speakers for music with a small headunit. unless you're not bothered with music then just take the whole lot out. one idea would be to keep all sound stuff in the back off the car, eg: just speakers in the parcel shelf with a small amp in the boot connected directly to and mp3 player without a headunit up front... (maybe this could help with weight distribution? lol)

there's a lot you can do when it comes to saving weight, it just depends how much you are willing to sacrifice - especially when it comes to road noise.

fiber glass hood and fenders, f/g is alot lighter than steel. if you want you can replace some windows with plexy glass, you might loose the up/dowm function of them though. get rid of the a/c, and or heat if you can. gut the trunk (all of the plastic drim pieces do as a small bit of weight). if your car has them and youd dont want them ditch the airbags. just be reative. power steering will rob your car of power too.

Here..... go to the link for my project "Polar Express" which was sidetracked once I bought the GSiTurbo car.

I still have the car.... and I still plan on doing more work to it.... with the idea that perhaps the GSiTurbo's engine will be put into it as a pure race car.

Then I'd put the C20GET from my third project car into the GSi..... which would be a very decent engine for that car. ( know this because it had one in there a few years back )

I pulled out everything from the car and weighed it as it was removed.

This is from an Astra MKII / Kadett E but it should give you some idea.

I'm not sure if you will manage 100Kg's without making your car pretty bare.... hard to say.

I think I'm down to about 1500lbs dry weight at the moment.... but I don't have a gearbox or engine.... so it's not going to go very fast ;)

Get the hole saw out and get funky. Making fibreglass bonnets and wings will save a fair bit of weight, moreso the bonnet in all honesty. Cut away inner skins that arent structural. Get rid of as has been said, all sound deadening, door cards etc. these 2 alone, maybe with the backseats could mount up to be a fair amount of weight shaved off. Run with less petrol, skip breakfast the day of the drag, take a big dump that morning, wear a bin back and work out the week coming up to it and you instantly lose a few kgs etcetc :P

I still can't understand how you manage such slow times ( no offense ) with that much power.

I know the Nubira weight is quite a bit more than the Astra MK2 but I figured you would be well into the 12's with an LSD.

I know of a few Dodge SRT-4's that run just under 12 seconds with dyno proven power in the range of 400hp

I'm pretty sure my friend made 405whp and ran an 11.99 .... and he let off the throttle at the end because he was worried they would throw him off the track if he ran much faster without a roll cage.

He did have drag slicks.... but I'm sure he could have pushed the car down into the mid 11's because his interior was stripped which made the car lighter than most of the other SRT-4's out there.

A standard SRT-4 weighs about 2900lbs if I remember correctly..... Nubira is what.... about 2700lbs????

So in theory I still think you should be in the low to mid 12's.

What kind of tires are you running ( manufacturer and size? )
