Cold air induction

I know there is a thread or a How To section on cone filters but im damned if I can find a thread with pics... anyways I own a daewoo Lanos 1.5 hatch and was thinking about hooking up a cone filter and I found this Cold Air Induction starter kit in our local motor shop magazine. would this be ok for my car or can you recommend what I should be using and if anyone knows where the thread is on cone filters id appreciate it... Thanks


PS. If I get stuck with anything mechanical as a last resort I can ask my brother for help ( he is a mechanic) but we dont really get on to good.

the best way to do a cold air intake is to DIY the whole thing. the only thing you should be looking to buy is the air filter, and maybe some piping to go with it.

once you have a filter, its a case of finding the right diameter tubing to go with it, the easiest being just to get a straight piece about 10 inches long, one end into the intake tube on the itnake manifold and attaching the air filter on the other end, and then run some type of flexible tubing from somewhere round the front bumper.

the lanos i have doesnt have fog lights, instead it has plastic covers which i cut a hole into, attaching a pipe to the back of it and routing it thru to the engine bay where the itnake resonator used to be.

im gonna be re-doing my intake soon (due to some troubles with it - ie: its rattling/hitting something) and if i remember i'll be taking a few pictures which i'll post in my thread in the members cars section.

Thanks mate, My lanos also has little rubber covers over the fog lights to, so I can rout a pipe to that opening. I see you took your resonator out...... I took a pic of how my brother did a filter to his BMW, but I will have to feed my pipe under the guard.

once you take that airbox out,
right there on the wheel weld youll see an opening,
right there is where i took mine out,
down and right behind the front fog ( i do have fogs).
I used fexible PVC tube for the "in-engine-bay" area and used solid PVC tubing for the "in wheel weld" area.
I used a con filter, but a short one, its about 2 inches, made for space constricted areas. works great.

INoteI: i do clean it every time i wash my car to keep it breathing fresh air

I live in Puerto Rico, its quite warm here too

Never have snow, never have a real "winter" just gets cooler, maybe down in the 50's in the mountain peaks.

But thats as cold as it'll get and that very wierd to see that kinda cold!

Hey I just joined this forum today, I also DIY my cold air intake. I just bought a pod filter and used some piping from what was leading to the resonator. I also had some scrap peice of high density timber siding from a house and use that as a make-shift heat shield. It still gets hot but it manages to block out most of the hot air from the engine allowing the filter to suck the cold air from the opened fog light cover on the right side.
