Help Troble Code P1792

I have a code (and pending code) P1792 ... any one know what this is?

My daughter bought a 1999 Nubira a couple of months ago and it's had a rough idle for about a month (hot or cold).
The battery has been going bad for a wile too.
Yesterday I drove it and mashed the motor and it didn't respond that great.
Later that day I got a CEL so I got my Code Reader and it shows a code P1792.
I replaced the ECTS (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) and still the same codes and still rough idle.

P1792?? P-codes are obd2 codes...and P1792 stand for a problem with the automatik gearbox...im sure, a 1999 nubira don´t have a obd2 interface. it works with the old GM-ALDL system. or i´m wrong?

Hey there... In the great USofA all cars 96+ are OBD II regardless of make model or country or orgin..

TC your problem is a common one and an easy fix. However only a GM dealer or certified repair shop can correct the issue. Or if you have a class 2 type scantool and a candi module and subscription with gmtechinfo, you can do it yourself.

Basically 1792 is a eeprom error code. This is the internal memory of the pcm or engine computer. Every vehicle's prom is unique to that vehicle, like a fingerprint. Sometimes a great fault in the electrical system can cause a de-program of the memory, or if the vehicle's original pcm went bad and was replaced with a used one, the memory values wont match and cause the code. The pcm MUST BE REPROGRAMMED TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. If reprogramming does not clear the code, then a new pcm must be installed, and reprogrammed.

Good luck hopefully the previous owners just replaced a failed unit with a used one, and all thats missing is a reprogram...

I'm going to change the alternator today and maybe the battery.
Then I'll take it to the only Daewoo shop around here.
The good thing is he's a cool guy and relatively inexpensive.

I had no clue what that error was.
