2000 Leganza timing belt issues

Post by rrob311 »

I just picked up an 00 Leganza 2.2 and I believe the timing belt is broken. Has anyone taken the head off one of these with a broken belt? Does usually the just the valves get bent? I want to get this thing going ASAP. I won't be able to get it home for another week because I need to get it towed. it has 101k on it.

you might get lucky and it will only be one side of valves

on a lot of interference engines its mostly the intake valves which are damaged, while the Ex escape..is the Daewoo DOHC like this?

which is good at least, as an intake valve replace is less labor intensive than an exhaust replace, ie if ur not choosing to do full valve service on undamaged valves..

I've seen that a few times... it's either only inlet or both

are these good engines? Can I just lap in new valves or should I order a reman head?

there is no way of telling. until you get the head removed you will not know for sure regardless of how good an engine might be.

Well we got the head removed today and all 16 valves are bent. The pistons are gouged a bit and I am concerned about them. I may order valves tonight. The intake valves are bent way more than the exhaust. Nonetheless, all 16 need to be replaced. The timing belt tensioner failed I believe because there were ball bearings inside the timing cover which destroyed the harmonic balancer. does anyone have experience reusing nicked pistons? The cylinder walls are perfect.

Hi,

Have you considered a reman head from ebay motors? You should be able to find one complete around 250~300usd.
