Oil leaking

Post by chris58950 »

The problem that I have is not so much that the valve cover gasket is leaking, it is this rubber half circle piece on the right side of the engine. It is at the same level as where the valve cover gasket would go. For anyone who has changed their gasket, does this rubber piece come with the gasket?

Has anyone had this problem before?

It might not be a gasket!!

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

I have seen that if you are not careful when pouring oil back into the oil fill when you do an oil change, oil can run down under the plastic valve cover and go down into the sparkplug hols. This makes it look like oil is leaking, even though it is not, it is only spilled oil going where it should not.

Check into that before you get too worried, but also make sure it is not a gasket that needs replacing so you do not cause any unnecessary damage.

Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty sure its a leak. I have taken some pictures. The pictures are a little dark, but I think you can make it out. I have highlighted the half circle rubber piece in RED. I hope you guys can help.

Have you thought about getting a torque wrench & just snugging the valve cover bolts down a little? THey may just not be quite tight enough and loosened over time with road & engine vibration.

Find out from someone on here who may know, or from the Daewoo service center near where you live to find out how many foot pounds of torque the valve cover bolts are supposed to be.

This happened in my 1994 Hyundai Excel and all I had to do was tighten the valve cover a little and it stopped leaking.

Just a thought...

A new valve cover gasket can't hurt, though, so change it if you feel like doing that first.

Good luck,
Cliff

Yes, the gasket is the rubber part, but, the part I need looks like a half circle, and it sits on the edge of the engine. Look at the pictures if you dont know what I'm talking about.

Just changed the valve cover gasket on my leganza

Post by Bglad »

Guys,

I had a small oil leak on my valve cover gasket so I ordered a new gasket and changed it myself. The change was easy, but now when I start the car the valves are tapping like no oil is getting to the valves. Im not sure what I could have done worng to cause this since I did not have the problem before I changed the gasket. Can someone guide me through this one.

VALVE COVER GASKET ANYONE?

Post by RhinoWrecker »

I have a 2000 Leganza, but the bad thing about it is that a chick used to own it before me. She never took it to get tune-ups. So now i have the bad end of the stick. I took it in to a mechanic and they told me that it's the valve cover gasket. Ok, but ive checked everywhere and no sign of one. Can someone point me in the direction of where i can maybe order one?
