I do like the T-shirt idea. I will definitely consider this, but most likely later this summer. Alternatively, I could look up some prices for T-shirts, and then simply pass them on at cost.

Ok.... I finished the modified short shifter with nice steel pull up lever about 10 minutes ago.
Here is the picture...
I cut the little plastic knob off the side of the white plastic and it works great...goes into fifth gear finally
The use of stainless steel was a mistake.... it took me forever (3 hours) to make this simple piece... I kept smoking my drill bits (internal holes)
Needless to say I finished it but it would cost way too much to make it out of stainless unless you had a large batch done at a machine shop.
I also don't like the look of the stainless steel vs polished aluminum.
The piece is very solid and it weighs more than the shifter knob.... so it's too heavy.
So I think it's best if I make the next one out of 6061 Aluminum bar stock....it will be way lighter and better looking.
It should make machining it really easy and quick and perhaps Tom can find someone who can polish the parts real cheap so they match the knob.
Alternatively I suppose we could get a burnishing wheel and some polish compound and Tom can do it himself.

At some point I will put my shifter boot back on and drop my center console into place so everyone can see the drastic difference.
Given I was working on my shifter last night I ended up putting my stock shifter back into my car for the drive home last night.
WOW!!!!! What a difference... after driving with the short shifter for several days and going back to the stock one it made me realize just how huge the change was.
When I first put it in and drove around I noticed the difference but it wasn't as dramatic as I had hoped.... but going the other way.... puting the stock one back in made it feel like I was driving a Tractor!!!
I'm not kidding... I found myself moving my whole arm to shift instead of a flick of the wrist.
Anyways..... I'm sure you guys will enjoy the new shifter once Tom gets a chance to bang a few off.
Unfortunatly I didn't come to the conclusion about using aluminum early enough so I will have to wait and get the bar stock tomorrow.
Hopefully by the end of the weekend Tom will have the machining process down to a science and be able to bang off a few shifters.

I finished the "reference" aluminum shifter mechanism....... it will be used to take measurments for all future parts.
So now I have to go through the machining process with Tom... and then he will be able to make some shifters for you guys.
I'm hoping that we will be able to get through all the new tooling changes this week but it all depends on how our "after hours" schedules line up.

how the hell did you take out the lower bracket?? i tried to do that but i coudn't get the metal pole comming from the fire wall into the bracket offErfinder wrote:I installed the boot and took a picture.

I simply undid the clip that holds the shifter into the plastic shifter box........ I didn't remove the lower bracket or metal pole.
I will eventually be doing this.... I want to modify the box to allow for a better pivot point.... so as to get the shifter throw down to about 3".
I will take some pictures when I get around to the removal procedure.... but as it stands it's not real high on my priority list.
