This only happens with the driver side door.
This is meant to be a safety feature so that the driver does not lock the keys in the car.
When the driver side door is closed, the inside push botton lock can be used to lock the door from the inside. The key can also be used to lock the door from the outside.
When the driver side door is open, the inside push botton lock can not be used and requires the door to be closed and the key to be used to lock the door from the outside.
When I had my old Hyundai Excel, I locked the keys inside more times than I can count because I could lock the door from the inside while the door was open and did not need the key to lock it from the outside.
Since buying my Lanos, and the door will not lock with the button from the inside while the door is open, I have not once locked the keys inside the car and I am VERY happy the locks are set up like this.
The passenger side door will lock with the inside button so that the passenger does not need a key to lock the door, too.
This is not a problem and nothing is broken. Do not worry; it was just good thinking by the Daewoo engineers to keep people from locking their keys inside the car.

cliff I know I love this feature, except for if you open the trunk and shut it!!!!! I have done that once in my 4 years of owning my lanos and I also did it just recently when I was working on my car taking the center console out from the passenger side and I had the keys in the ignition hopped out and locked the passengers door!!! Oh well 2 times in 4 years isn't that bad!
I was just going to say that lol.delphis wrote:cliff I know I love this feature, except for if you open the trunk and shut it!!!!! The thing I don't like about the trunk, is that there's no latch inside the car to pop the trunk GGGRRRRR. If the car is running and you need to access the trunk, you have to take out the keys, walk outside and open the trunk with the key. That's pretty dumb.

yes but I have thought of all of the times I have had my tuntable coffin in the back and thought to myself well hey even if they broke in the couldn't steal the coffin because of the fact that the only way out is throught hte back. So for anti theft purposes I love this feature. Just get yourself another copy of the key made and have it on a quick release so you can access the trunk with out turning off the motor.
I suppose this is because you got the hatchback... I got the sedan and I got a little handle at the left side that opens the trunk.AcingTeam wrote:I was just going to say that lol.delphis wrote:cliff I know I love this feature, except for if you open the trunk and shut it!!!!! I got some misfortunes with that too myself...in a gas stations, instead of popping the gas tank door I popped the trunk and went out of the car expecting that the guy started fueling the car instead he said: so... should I spray fuel allover the trunk and your engine will just sniff the fumes or what?!

hahaha ... I have opened the trunk of my Leganza many times when getting fuel.
For that reason, I am glad that where I live, you pump your own fuel and there is not someone there to do that for you.
On the hatchback, if you want to open your trunk, here is an inexpensive way to do so:
BULLDOG SECURITY Trunk Release Kit
$8.01 + shipping
http://store.yahoo.com/efunctional/bld739.html

I will be buying one of these very soon.
delphis, if you want security, just put the hatch release button in an unusual place, maybe even hidden under the carpet somewhere down next to the seat rail. That way, no one sees a button, but you know where to press on the carpet to make the back of the car open!
