Manual Transmission Problem.. possible broken mount?

Post by daftmajin »

Just got a brand new clutch and motor put in my Lanos and it was driving excellent. In February my 1999 (98 production) 1.6L blew with only 74K on it so I had a 2002 (01 production) 1.6L with only 24K on it put in last month. The 2002 motor has changed a lot and I think it was mostly downgraded. That is a whole different topic though and I am satisfied because it has 12 month warranty and is running great. Well anyway the problem I have just started 2 nights ago and I haven't driven since. I was driving and I heard a loud thud like a metallic object hitting another (thats never good). I was driving with my windows down and at first just thought something flew in and hit the back of the trunk (I have all the plastic off). The car was driving great still and then I heard it again but not quite as loud and this time I could tell that it wasn't inside the car. After this I became a little uneasy even though the car was still driving great. Then after sitting in a parking lot for a while I decide to head on home and I hear another metal sound and my car kind of jumps when I give it a little gas in first gear. The jump made the tires screetch a little and it was not intentional. Then exiting the parking lot I slide it into second very gently and this time when I gave it gas the stick moved with me. OOOOOOOOO SHIT! Something was definatley wrong now. The stick was moving backwards past where it rests in second and also did it in third. So I drove all the way home very very slow. Is it transmission mount?

When driving your car, have you noted when shifting if it fails or jumps?

It's difficult to diagnose what's happening without seeing or driving the car.

could be an engine mount or a tranny mount... not really sure so check all of them and check the shifting mechanism too.
