How to stop Knob from spinning... Help!!
Ok,
The new short shifter that I made... the shift knob is rotating around the metal shaft. There's a plastic sleeve that goes over the shaft, then the knob with allien screws gets put in... well the whole thing (including the plastic sleeve) is spinning around the shaft. It isn't going up or down, but just rotating. What can I use to prevent it from spinning?
My friend suggested using a hair spray (which is supposedly sticky)... any suggestions?

depends on if you ever want to remove the shifter again.
Use a superglue or equivalent... if you never wanna remove it again...
Maybe Wood glue will hold it firmly enough and you can remove at a later time.

Maybe go to a local homedepot or something and ask them for a "Strong" epoxy. I think there is a few ways too:
there's a tape for threading, maybe wrap it a few times around your threads on the shifter and try it again, if that doesn't work... put on the strong epoxy and then tighten it on cleaning any of the excess epoxy. see if that works.

Perhaps you should use a screw from this world... I've heard that Alien screws are no good for attaching shift knobs
Take out the allen key screw.... place the knob where you want.... drill into the shifter shaft (through the hole in the shifter knob).... reinsert the allen key screw and your done.
Just be very carefull to use a drill bit that is smaller than your shift knob hole (where the allen key screw was )
You don't want to screw up your threads.
And you don't need to go in very far with the drill bit.... you just need to make a small dimple in the shaft for the allen key screw to sit in.
I think I only drilled down about 1/16" on mine... which was more than enough to give the allen key a place to sit into.

Do what he said.. only instead of drilling right then just mark it with something then take off the knob and drill... or use a tiny tiny drill bit so there is not chance in hell you'll mess up the threads then take off the knob and use a bigger drill bit

That's a pretty good idea... My plastic sleeve is so tight that I literally had to use a hammer to put it on the shaft, but I'll definately try this method before any others.scarr wrote:I had that problem on my CRX, all I did was wrap some electrical tape around the shaft and force the plastic piece and shift knob onto it then tighten it down, takes some hammering (you might hurt your hand in the process) but it worked for me.

Ok, fixed it tonight. I used superglue, so that sucker isnt going anywhere. Put superglue around the shaft, put the sleeve over it super tight, let it sit for a while, and then put the knob with bigger screws in (2 different sets of screws where provided with the knob). That sucker is so stiff now and isn't going no where!!
