quick question

Post by woo »

whats involved in tightening my handbrake cable? My leganza has a disk as the brake and a drum for the hand brake. Ive just had the rear brakes rebuilt and i can feel the handbrake loosening. Its great to be able to do longer burnouts as the car hasnt ever had a working handbrake but i dont want to be paying for it to be tightened every few months

so you need procedures for tightining the hand brake?? an easy way will be to take off the mid console over the hand brake liver and tighten the bolt that holds the cable... worked fine for me.

You don't even have to take out the center console, there is a little plastic covering on the very back of the mid-console that faces the back seats, pop the cover off and you'll be able to see the handbrake assembley, simply tighten the bolt and your all good.

i remember that the bolt was facing the front of the car so if you did that you will only see the rear of the hand brake hadle... the bolt will be on the other side... or maybe we got different designs, i know your car already got different calipers than it is supposed to have

Wierd, the bolt on my '99 Lanos faces the rear, making it easily accesible, only a small plastic cover in the way.

Yeah man, my car is a weird bastard Daewoo made of all different parts. Someone at the factory is messing with me  .

even if you had to pull the plastic console out, it's only in there by a few screws and then it just lefts up. even the windows are seperate (on the 99 lanoes anyway (4-door)... it's houldn't be any big deal to get to that bolt.

damn i must be stupid

i remeber now... the cable is comming down from the floor and it makes an upward U turn and the bolt is right on top facing backwards, you can reach it indeed from the back side but it will give you such limited access area.

anyways the back part of the mid console is held by just two screws... pull both front seats all the way to the front and you can reach them.

It definitely would be easier to take off the entire console, like I did, because the only way to get to the bolt would be with a wrench, as a regular socket wouldn't fit. It is only two screws, but I don't think that any part of a Daewoo is held on by more than 4 screws  .

Dammit :( .

Not to hijack a post, but speaking of wheels, I tried to take mine off this weekend and nothing, (yes I took out the bolts  ). I sprayed about a half a can of WD-40 in it and it didn't budge, then I put my feet on the fender for leverage and pulled as hard as I could and it didn't even budge, and I'm kinda strong. I guess my hub rusted and expanded and is holding the wheel on, I guess the Brake/Rotor job will have to wait until I work out a bit  .

i get that all the time man... just smak the tire as hard as you can on top then yank it to the out side to try to break it loose, also do that to the bottom and sides of the tire till it comes off.
