what does the power button do?

on my 2001 lanos (auto :cry: ) there is a buttin on the left side of the shifter. it is called power. what exactly does this do, i would look in the manual but i never had one, so i look to this forum... plz help, im confused!!!

It simply causes the 4T40E transmission to go into a more agressive shift pattern. It will shift at considerably higher RPM and be more inclined to drop shift when you press the gas pedal. It is useful when passing, as it harnesses what little power we have, but be wary of using it in city driving, it will waste more gas and be a little annoying going up to 5500 RPM even if you are going 20 MPH and it will also continuosly go into a lower gear if you touch the gas pedal a little.

I don't think it puts any undue stress on the transmission though, or else GM would have thrown it out of the plans.
