Shift at 6rpm when you get a tach. If you accelerate hard, even without the tach, you can feel a sudden burst of power (5 to 6k rpm) and then it hits the rev limiter. So even without the tach you could still know when to shift because of that burst of power.

p.s. the limiter is actually set at 6,250rpm

You could sign up for that underdrive pulley that is going on in the group buy section. Also, you could get a nubira throttle body (I heard it fits lanos and it is bigger). Also, I usually lunch it at 3-4k rpm, that is the best for me. Anything lower and it's just slow, anything higher and it's spinning for hours.

Also, you could get nitrous and run 50hp safely.

i guess the launch RPM depensd on each car but the basic rule is to launch at the highest RPM you can where wheel slipping ia absent as wheel spinning = lost time... right??

any of our cars have the enough power to spin the wheels at a pretty low rpm. upgrade the suspension (stiffer) to keep the wheels from bouncing and you'll get a higher launch rate. also... the most effective performance upgrade, ever, is tires. grippy tires that don't spin = mad fast take-offs at high rpms (i.e. dragsters)...

Even my automatic Lanos breaks traction @ 2000-2500 RPM, especially if the tires are hot, if they are cold, it is a little higher. I have heard that to launch in an automatic you hold the brake and rev it to 3000 and let go of the brake...Yeah...that doesn't work, wheels will spin and I won't move, if I keep it floored, I can arrive at my next destination with my wheels still spinning. I find that the best thing to do is hold down the brake with the left foot while having your right foot basically rest on the gas pedal, the reaction time will be a lot lower for you, especially if the guy you are racing has a similar horsepower car (i.e. Civic) and a manual, by the time he pushes the clutch and goes into first, you will be ahead. I put it in "power" mode so that is shifts at higher RPM and I only depress the gas pedal half way, because for some reason the Daewoo at WOT doesn't pull very well, only when the tranny shifts to second gear will I floor it. Then it pulls well.

And yes, I do believe racing with an Automatic Lanos is kinda like winning the Special Olympics....if you know what I mean...

the underdrive pulley that Tom from 360dynamics can get made will be lighter and smaller in diameter. basically since its lighter the belt can go faster and easier meaning more horses. so far for the lanos sign up sheet its only me and they need five people.
