2.0 MT bolt to a 1.6L engine?

Post by daewooluvr »

Ok so there's been speculation that this would work but I'd like to see some concrete evidence of this. Does anyone know for certain that this works? Any documentation/pictures? Is this a direct bolt on?

THanks,

you should only need a 1.6 clutch and friction plate. The transmision should be bolt on.

im using a F16 on my 2.0

well I know I keep hearing that I *should* only need the 1.6L clutch but I'm looking for something more concrete.

Well..... how about looking at Tom's silver GSi as concrete evidence.

The Lemans cars came with both the 1.6L and 2.0L naturally aspirated throttle body engines.

Both the 2.0L and 1.6L came with the F16 which is the cable driven cousin to the D16 which uses hydraulics for the clutch actuation.

Tom threw in a modified C20GET engine and continued to use his F16 transmission ( still surprized it managed nearly 250 ft-lbs on the dyno without breaking )

Then Tom purchased an F20 from Sweden and had it shipped over here so that he could get the longer gear ratios to help with his 1/4 mile times.

I can't remember what the exact difference was but I think he went from shifting from 2 to 3 at 86km/h to 102km/h.

Anyways.... to get to the point both the F16 and F20 will work with the 1.6L and 2.0L engines.

The only difference between the F16/F20 and the D16/D20 is that the F series transmissions used a clutch cable where as the D series uses hyrdraulics.

Tom figures the F20 from Sweden is made better than the D20 but I guess that will remain to be seen.

He will have an F20 in his GSi and I will have the D20 in my Optra when we throw in our turbo 2.0L 16V engines (which should make similar power)

Ok, so the bellhousing and everything should just mount up to the 1.6L engine...

Next question, which is better the 2.0 MT or the 2.2 MT or did they use the same?
