Need A/C
Hey guys I?m new to this forum. I love to work on my cars plus I don?t trust mechanics:) So I need your help?
When I bought off ebay my 99 Lanos with 40k on it I didn't realize that it was a basic edition without a/c. So I'm planning to install it. Could you give me any advice? Exactly what parts do I need and will it be very difficult to install? Does anyone have an a/c for sell? Thanks guys!

OK... aside of the basic parts needed for the A/C... i think you will need a bigger alternator, new crank pully with A/C bank and the second radiator cooling fan.
isn't their a pressure sensor on the A/C fluid lines to trigger the radiator fans too?? any body actually did this mod. before? it seems quite complicated to me.

Yikes, removing the full AC system is a total pain in the ass, but putting one onto a car that has never had one has to be worse.
From the front to back you would need:
1. Dryer
2. Condensor
3. New Dual Radiator Fans
4. Compressor
5. New Crank Pulley with notch for AC belt
6. AC belt Tensioner assembly
7. AC belt
8. 100% full Freon Hosing
9. Take off Dash and install evaporator and other little parts
10. I don't know if your Lanos has a wiring harness that will support the AC. If not, you will need one that will and probabally have to change your whole wiring harness just for the 2 plugs for the compressor clutch and the pressure sensor.
11. Refill system with refridgerant and hope there are no leaks.
Is it possible, of course!
Is it worth it, doubtful...
I don't know where you are located, but I live in Florida and have taken my AC off, I would much rather suffer for a few dozen minutes every day than go through the momentus task of replacing my AC system.
However, if you decide to go through with it, I can provide you with everything mentioned minus the compressor and tensioner assembley because my compressor is shot and my tensioner assembly is definately missing some parts.

12. And maybe a new ECU or reprograming the existing one for supporting A/C.BosnianLanos wrote:Yikes, removing the full AC system is a total pain in the ass, but putting one onto a car that has never had one has to be worse.

i guess A/C equippted cars got bigger alternators... right?? if thats the case then a new alternator is added to the list.Daniel wrote:12. I think it would be easier to install a universal one. I did a bit of digging and came up with this site:
http://www.boughtforless.com/ They actually have a Pontiac LeMans kit that should work with your Lanos. It costs US$770. They also got cruise control systems as well and a few other things.
Good luck.
