reverse shift engage noisy

Post by Daniel »

Hi All,

Nubira 1,6 DOHC manual transaxle 85000km.
When I shift in reverse I often get a criiiiiiik gear noise.
If I don't pull the shift lever full against the left wall (+/-1 mm play)before engaging than it's beter.
Is that something I can adjust without stripping my tranny in pieces?

Thks,
Daniel

I think we all (guys with 5spds) have this problem. I don't know if anyone actually attemped to fix it... I'm used to it already... have to completely stop, and put it into reverse slowly, then it's fine.

same thing here... i even went to the dealership for that issue and the guy told me "throw in the revers gear slowly" and on a review on daewoos many years ago they said that the reverse is pretty tricky and you need to be at a complete hault to be able to successfuly engage the revers gear.

it is kinda inherent thing with the tranny rather than a problem.

Hey!
I've learned from a french forum the reasons of my noisy method. The pinion of reverse gear has right teeth without synchro and I have to wait about 4 seconds with the clutch pedal floored that all internal gears are no more spinning. Then I can engage the reverse without having sarcastic remarks from my neighborhood.

I grind my gears all the time.... reverse and 1st gear.... I guess I'm too impatient sometimes

I don't think I could ever wait 4 seconds at a complete stop....I'm one of those guys that floors it in reverse and slams it into 1st as I'm spinning so that the tires are spinning in a forward direction by the time the car has stopped moving in a backwards direction.

Sure it's hard on the tranny..... but it's fun :D :D :D

I used to have a tranny with bad syncros and I didn't get them fixed so I used to double clutch or do clutchless shifting..... I probably ground the gears (sometimes forcing the shift) about 20 times a day.

Surprizingly enough the tranny took the punishment.... I couldn't kill that tranny..... so a little bit of grinding here and there shouldn't hurt it.

you start counting 4 seconds AFTER you are at a complete halt, if the car is still moving you will gringd the gears no matter how long you wait... thats why it sucks.

yeah right... solve the revers problem and on the other hand lose 5th gear, make your car slower in 0-60MPH, lose top speed and above all lose the fun of upshift, downshift (and sometime miss-shift)?? no thank you i prefer to grind revese gear all day long
